Ford Motor Company is recalling some Ford Mustang (https://fordauthority.com/fmc/ford/ford-mustang/) models over an issue with the warning message when the transmission is not in park and the engine is off.
The defect: in affected vehicles, the “transmission not in park” warning message and associated chime are only active for three seconds when the transmission is not in park, the ignition is off, and the driver’s door is closed. The chime should remain active for 10 seconds and the transmission not in park warning message should display for 30 minutes when the driver’s door is closed.
The hazards: a transmission not in park warning and chime with a shorter than designed duration could result in the driver exiting the vehicle when it is not in park and experiencing unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this Ford Mustang recall.
Components: transmission / operation warning messages

Affected vehicles: 2019-2020 Ford Mustang built at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant April 26th to October 10th, 2019.
Models that are part of this Ford Mustang recall are currently in North America, including the United States, Canada and Mexico.

We only have advance notice on this so far, no fix has been issued yet. It's for 2019-2020 Mustangs built between April 26, 2019 and October 10, 2019, and 2019 Expeditions built between October 16, 2018 and October 13, 2019.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the audible chime and the “Not in Park” warning message on the instrument cluster operates but may not for the intended time period. When the key is turned off and vehicle is not in park position the chime should sound for 10 seconds and the warning message should display for 30 minutes with the door closed.

Full info just came out on this, the fix is a reprogramming.

Dealers are to reprogram the instrument panel cluster using Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) level 116,04 or higher for the Mustang. Expedition will require use of Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.
