There's a guy in New York (I believe) that's a huge Hot Wheels collector. He had 2 of these at one point but eventually sold one.

The guy in the article is named Bruce Pascal and it says he had two and sold one...probably same the same guy you are referring to.

Thats insane, I passed my beat up, well played with hot wheels to my son, and now my grandson is getting a chance to play with them. I have them stored in the round plastic mag wheel carrier. Needed this to take them to my friends when we were about 9-10 years old.

That’s worth more than some pristine, pink, hippy hot wheels IMO.

My buddy was a big Hot Wheels collector, but he made some of the hardcore guys cringe. I went with him to pick up some cars from a hardcore collector, almost all redlines, about 25 years ago. One of the cars he bought was an original redline, still in its original card and very good shape. My buddy hands the guy the money and says "The deal is done, right?" "This is mine now, right?" , the seller says "Yes" and my buddy cracks open the card and zooms the car across the desk. The seller just about fainted. My buddy turns to me and whispers "I got two more just like this at home in better condition".
