Just another cash grab, I read that those one arm bandits issued over 81,000 tickets in just 3 months !

The Waze app is pretty good at warning about speed devices once they are loaded into the app.

The ones in Hamilton are set to ticket at anything over the posted limit so I would assume that Toronto would be the same. Such bullshit since the manufacturer is allowed a certain percentage either way in speedometer calibration.

I have seen pictures of people getting ticketed for 1 kph over the speed limit.

As much as I hate to admit it, stats plus what I see each and every time we are out and about support what they've done.
Ridiculous what some feel is ok in busy areas.

I thought I got caught from one of those pos cameras about 3 years ago after going through a amber light, close enough to think ah shit did I get caught?

No ticket came in the mail.
I did some research and found out that those cameras are so expensive that the city did not have enough to go around to cover every location.
They would move them around to different locations.
So you don't know which one is active.

Don't know if they still do this.

^ My understanding is yes they do move the red light cams around.

Ya know, this is a great application for a baseball bat. Assuming they're within reach.

I am surprised that no one has stolen them seeing that the are not fixed.

I thought we were allowed to be 5kph under and 5kph over the the speed limit for those types of variables and who’s driving around with needle exactly at the posted speed?

In Durham I think they’re set slightly higher than the speed limit. Every speed photo is reviewed by an officer and they determine if it warrants a ticket or not. I haven’t heard of anyone here getting one that’s less than 5kph over.

In the S'hwa, they've setup some stationary photo radar boxes. They do move them around. Lots of vandalism taking place on them though, mostly graffiti, spray painting the actual picture taking window.

In somewhat related news, got my first speeding tkt. in 41 yrs. while house shopping Okotoks, AB last week. Running a bit late for a house viewing, coming into the area, very country like setting....cops setup with laser at the entrance to a public school (this was on a saturday!) just as you crest the hill coming into the area. I was a wee bit distracted, and not knowing the area a BIG disadvantage.

Needless to say, I was 23 kms. over the speed limit (73 in a 50) driving my daughters 4runner and rec'd $198 tkt. Young cop had no sympathy or interest in just giving me a warning given I'm from out of province. Oh well. I'll show up to their little court and plead my case and see if I can get the fine reduced. Worth a shot.
