View Full Version : Does TPS affect idle in a 2V?

Took car out for a drive tonight. Developed and intermittent hanging idle (2000ish rpm). Noticed if I got out and banged on the TPS sensor with a screwdriver or ratchet it idled back down. Can the TPS in these cause a high idle condition? My first thought was the shit quality Pro Product throttle body was sticking but playing with/opening and closing the throttle made no difference.

Also can someone please remind me if the low coolant idiot light in 99-04s is tied to anything besides the stupid floating in the coolant tank? I don’t think it’s tied in to fans but would love someone smarter than I to confirm.

Thanks.

Yes TPS can make it hang but not very common. Try tps from your stock TB to be sure, aftermarket TB causing hang is super common.

This is the cars OEM TPS sensor.

Guess anything can happen but stock sensors have been dead nutz reliable. Got a second one to try?

Don't but would appear a new Motorcraft is available and $60 so could order to isolate.

Or bolt stock TB back on n test (assuming you have).

Have a couple, could try that as well. Will grab a gasket today and give it a shot.

Even get odd aftermarket TB leaking through the throttle shaft.

Winter plans include TFS intake manifold and a 75mm Accufab so won't be heart broken if that turns out to be the case.

Nice. I'm looking at doing that one as well but with the dual 57mm TB from a bullit/cobra. (already have the TB, aka I stole it from ZR's office without him noticing)

Sounds saucy. I'm honestly doing the intake more to make the underhood dress up a bit than for performance. However the rough/ ride quality of my car might get addressed first thinking on it...

Hey Laffs I installed the TFS street burner on my 2v works like a champ. If you have any questions just ask.

Also used the Accufab 75 mm throttle body. Dont use the supplied lower intake gasket get a new felpro. The supplied gasket leaked, all other gaskets were fine.

I once installed a new OEM TPS just for what thought would be nice to do and got rpm hang time issues...reinstalled original TPS from 2004...runs fine again...

I was just planning to light it on fire with me in it.

I swapped the TPS in my 99 Cobra chasing a throttle lag problem, night and day difference.
The car is much more responsive now.

I had the RPM hang issue last year, turned out to be loose intake tube behind the MAF.
