The plastic hatch striker bushing on my 89 Mustang totally broke off today.
Can't close/lock the hatch unless I maybe slam the crap out of it.

Can the plastic bushing be replaced or do I have to buy a new striker assembly?
Any Canadian sources for those parts?

Just looking briefly it looks like Ford used 3 different designs during the production run.

I've seen people use a piece of PVC pipe in the appropriate diameter cut to length ...

I've replaced the one on my former 89 with a kit that Canadian Tire sold. It was the "Help" product line and it had several pieces of plastic tubing.

Was it the Dorman bushing kit in the link and were you able to remove the washer to get the bushing on and was the fit good?

Yep, that's the kit. Fit was good enough for the latch to work.

Were you able to remove the washer or did you cut the side of the bushing to get it on?

I believe you can remove the hatch striker from the body and that the washer unscrews from the bolt. Then you just slide on the new bushing. Going from memory here so I'm not 100% sure, lol.

Thanks,I'll check out the Dorman kit.
Buying a new striker is too expensive.

Takes a T-50 torx and figures the biggest torx bit I have is a T-40.

electrical tape always worked for me, try that till your part comes in.

I've heard PEX tubing works too. Haven't tried it myself, but I have a door striker to attend to.

On another note, the 93 hatch latch and striker are superior to previous years. They latch better and more securely. No bushing either.
