Is there any difference between 1996 4.6 from a Lincoln towncar vs 1996 4.6 from a mustang?

Both should be non PI engines however Ford usually used different timing covers vehicle to vehicle, same for intake manifolds. Further to that, depending on which block, one timing cover bolt below the water pump may not align up. No worries though, deleting the one bolt doesn't matter so long as you fill the void with a good smear of silicone. Some also used different oil filter adapter housings (when swapping be sure you use correct gasket, they look almost identical but can not be interchanged). Last is 8 vs 6 bolt cranks.
