Are there any TV and Internet service providers in the Toronto area that are better, cheaper and more reliable than Rogers and Bell or is one basically stuck with one of those two devils?

Rogers wants to end digital cable in the near future and switch/force everyone to Ignite which appears to have problems.

In the same boat here in Bolton debating whether or not to switch to Ignite.

I have ignite, it seems to work fine. Regular TV is horrible now, basically keep it as it is cheaper to bundle than have standalone internet.

These days I only watch some limited “news”, weather and some sports. Rest is pretty much garbage.

Check out Carry Telecom (https://carrytel.ca)
My brother in law uses them and has been happy. Just get a better package as they charge heavily to upgrade afterwards.

If you still have cable TV you've never heard of iptv.

Thousands of channels all ppv, f1 and all local shit too etc...ill never have cable TV again. Rogers high speed for 39.99 and that's it.

We made the switch to IPTV about 6 months ago and will never go back to cable for the price alone. We piggy backed on a friends subscription for a few months to give it a try before cancelling our Shaw and making the switch. We had no issue with Shaw (actually they were the best provider we had ever had) other than the price, just like the other big players. We now pay for a year what we used to pay for one month.

Neither am I Mav. Had a guy I work with set it all up. I bought 2 firesticks when they were 50% off, he loaded them up and set it all up. I pay the provider directly but that's the easy part.

Ok basically you need a android box, can buy it for yourself or buy from provider...(the contact person) costs about 150 for service a year plus box which is 100-200 depending on box you choose.
He will set it all up and all you need to do is hook up to internet and TV and it's done.

Insane amount of channels and features I love f1, ppv fights ,pvr but don't ever use it cause you can go back a up to 48rs and start most channels. Every TV station in can,us,UK its insane I don't use 90% not too mention almost 300 channels of porn if you like that stuff lol.

Hope this helps, anymore questions ask away

I've heard of IPTV and was going to mention it but you beat me to it as I haven't been on here in a few days.

Rogers Ignite is IPTV from my understanding but they charge way too much and offer limited channels compared to IPTV providers who base their servers outside of Canada and offer way more channels dirt cheap in comparison to Rogers.
From my limited knowledge,it's legal, just need to find a reputable provider.
I've had it with those Rogers mofo's.

Ask any south asian person and they'll hook you up...lol.

I've been meaning to get a box to try it out but haven't gotten around to it yet. Now that Bill C-11 is law I'm curious if they will try to use it against IPTV services.

I have an antenna, as well as borrowed PW's from my kid's Crave.

TBH I have a hard time finding anything not riddled with overt messaging. Better programming just is covert in messaging. While I enjoyed it, if you think Yellowstone isn't riddled with messaging, you're buying it.

I've been noodling with the idea of making my own home based PVR for capture/storage of antenna based programming.

What if you have multiple tv's? do you need account for each tv?

Yes sir. We have it in the bsmt which we watched 95% of the time. We've moved it up to other tvs when we were sick or when traveling. We've taken it to different family members houses to watch ppv or just to have movies and TV wherever we go

I have shared my login info with a few friends and they can all access my IPTV at any time. Even at the same time as me. You do need an Android box for each TV though.

I stopped paying for cable about 8-9 years ago. Made the switch from dsl to fibe when it was introduced in our area and it’s been great.. 0 down time in 3-4 years. It’s pricey but evens out since there’s no tv to pay for.

I resisted IGNITE for a long time as I had purchased four cable boxes to avoid the rental costs (about a 2-year payback as I recall). When I finally moved to IGNITE I absolutely love it (everything except the price of course) and would have jumped to it much sooner had I known how good it was. Two of my daughters live with us and we have ten TV's in the household (6 with IGNITE boxes).

If you go with IPTV don't forget to add a good VPN so you're hidden from your internet provider. Check these 2 providers for IPTV.
https://onaexpress.com/
https://xtremehdiptv.org/

Also, when buying an Android box spend at least $100 so you know you're getting a good product. As for the IPTV Player software I use Televizio.
There is a bit to learn but once you get it you'll be happy you switched.

Buffering, freezing. yes.

Buffering, freezing. yes.

Yes there is some of this (but tolerable to me) but it's not always a provider issue. It can be an internet speed issue too.
For the yearly cost savings, I'll deal with the minor blips.

I don't experience freezing or blocking but when I used the cheaper Android boxes and cheap IPTV service providers the buffering was worse. I hardly get buffering now.

Rogers hasn't been supporting cable boxes for several years now. So now, if you have an issue with them they force you in to Ignite. Of course, the pricing is insane (once the introductory ankle grabbing pricing period is over) and the content is mostly absolute garbage. I especially like checking the channels on the weekend only to find that 4 - 5 channels are "Paid Programming" or if they were honest "informercials". There are at times issues with buffering or freezing, but nothing that lasts very long or may require you to reset the router.

A friend of mine works out of province for stretches at a time has the Android box and takes it with him to use at his hotel or rental house. He absolutely loves it and says that there is more content than he could ever watch.

My wife and I have been discussing making this change and I'm glad this topic came up so I can relay this information to her.

I've been using Android boxes for years (Nvidia Shield Pro) and haven't looked back.
We bring a box with us wherever we are and they work great.

All the content (tv shows and movies) can be found for free on the box. I have a OTA for my local channels. Haven't had cable in 13 years and I don't miss it!

Currently have Cogeco cable... $125/mth Then, I have Distributel for internet... $65/month(cable modem). If I cancel Cogeco, do I loose my internet? Do I have to go DSL(Bell)?

Do I have to go DSL(Bell)? The cable and internet shouldn't be interdependent. Distributel should cover you if you have decent throughput if you want to solely stream. It would depend on the number of devices and the network bandwidth to determine if your package is up to it.

A good android box also goes a long way to ensure a good experience.

Without going into detail on an open forum. Aside from IPTV, there are apps and websites that can be used on an android box for free tv shows and movies. Having a box can give you endless options, you just need to know how to access it.
