Airbag recall list continues to grow (Yes, Mustangs are on the list)

The number of vehicles affected by the latest recall on airbags in the U.S. continues to grow, setting off alarm bells at The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Owners of certain models built by Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Subaru, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors are being asked to respond to the recall on airbags manufactured by Takata. The initial notice was issued more than 18 months ago and just this week passed 7.3 million vehicles.

"Responding to these recalls, whether old or new, is essential to personal safety and it will help aid our ongoing investigation into Takata airbags and what appears to be a problem related to extended exposure to consistently high humidity and temperatures. However, we’re leaving no stone unturned in our aggressive pursuit to track down the full geographic scope of this issue," said NHTSA Deputy Administrator David Friedman.

The issue at hand is the potential for the canister to explode and spray shrapnel at occupants. Of most concern are those vehicles in hot, humid climates. A total of four deaths have been attributed to this problem, with various lawsuits currently ongoing.

We don't live in a high humidity area so none of our cars are affected. I even checked my 07 from Texas and it wasn't affected

She's very nice - don't think there's shrapnel there.

don't think there's shrapnel there.

I just wouldn't wanna grab a hold of one of 'em and have it go off!
