On a stock shortblock? No. If this is on a stock '86 shortblock, you're ikely going to have some ptv clearance issues as well.

What's wrong with the cam?

Not the greatest for a "driver", especially when paired with an intake that does not favour the low end.

I actually prefer the '85-'88 Speed Density cams...

Yes sir I have had two B cams and custom cut ones too. Martys had more then I can count on two hands. I don't bad mouth the lettered cams you do.. And for you to put one in your car for any reason is just plan funny.lol

So should he port and polish his heads? Or buy more shiny parts?

Also want to hear the reasoning behind speed density cams. Inquiring mind.

I would think it wouldn't hurt to at least polish the heads.

But hopefully someone can answer about porting.

I also want to add, answer based on the parts he listed. Don't start telling him to change everything. .

Definitely do a port match to the largest gaskets available, regardless of head brand/model. You can do this with the valve train installed. Same for the lower intake.
Polishing the combustion chamber can be beneficial, particularly if the valves are out, but I wouldn't bother if you don't want to pull the valves for that.

I've checked the lower intake ports against the head ports... Head ports are larger so I don't believe I need to do any port matching...

And yes, would rather avoid taking the valves off the heads if I'm not doing any porting...

Thanks
