Hear hear....ding ding ding......we have a winner.

Been subscribing to that plan of action ever since I started doing shit for the second time and regretting not doing it right from the beginning because of the worst 4 letter word known to car guy:

only on the straight. from T8 to T5 you'll be giving them a sound beating. been there done that. as have others in well prep'd foxes. like a certain while Saleen in the pic above giving the business to a Ford GT to the point that the quarter of a million dollar supercar was given a blue flag ... you know, the flag that says "there's a race coming, and you ain't in it". best part of that was listening to the guy in the GT crying in the pits after ...

GT guy: "wtf did I get the blue flag for? I have the fastest car here"
Race Steward: "but clearly, sir, you don't"
GT guy: "but that's just an old fox"
Race Steward: "Yes ... and??"

Hey guys,

I figured I'd chime in so there is no confusion.

I am collecting pre-registrations at this point to gauge interest in the Drag Strip. I have about 20 names overall and roughly 17-18 of them include drag strip. There was a question regarding pricing for both the drag strip and road course combined. The pricing is going to be similar to last year's where road course is $120, Drag strip is around $40 and both will be around $140-$150 (all advance pricing). We have not posted any official pricing for the drag strip because we are not yet sure if we will be reserving it. I should have a good estimate around the middle of March and let you all know what we decide once we have a solid answer.

Thanks for the continued interest folks, this should be a really great event!

Cheers,
Reon

ZR

Given how early it is, encouraged by the support for the drag strip, especially from the road course guys that normally only register for it only.

REPOST

In an effort to see the event continue with the drag strip and road course, club is putting up an incentive for peeps to register for both. Remember that big ass tool set everyone was talking about from Canadian Tire a week or two ago.............well we've got one and wanna give it away to you.

Ok so how do you enter the draw for this bad boy, just gotta pre register for BOTH ROAD COURSE AND DRAG STRIP. Opting for one or the other won't work, no exceptions. We'll be drawing for the prize live at the race track.

Best of luck to everyone.

Mark, I have you registered for Drag Strip only, I'm assuming you're waiting on word for whether we will be renting the drag strip or not? This decision won't likely be made until mid March (or so). If I owe you any other answers, let me know and I'll get them to you.

Just to reiterate - We are simply collecting interest at the moment. Once we make a decision regarding the drag strip, we will post immediately.

Rick, the number we need for the drag strip is at least 50-60 participants to make it worthwhile.

Thanks everyone!

50-60 cars for the strip to happen? What has changed from other track days when it was an option from the get go? Does this event even get 60 cars signed up the the R/C? Either way it will be a fun day just curious.

ZR
02-14-2015, 09:54 AM
It's several things.

-significant decline in drag strip participants (pretty sure it was under 20 last yr but could be wrong)
- increase in track rental cost
-price per car for the drag strip adds up slowly towards the total cost of it's portion
-road course has always seen 50+ register

Good news, several from the road course are registering for the drag strip to help support whats important to guys going that are interested in the drag strip only. No one wants to see it not included, let's keep getting the word out there so it will happen.
Not enough days like this where you have the option to run or the other or both.
Will only continue if we as a group do it.

I might be heading to DaSilva's next weekend. I may not have tires in time for the event but I may just sign up anyways.

The tires I have now aren't "bald" they'd pass an inspection. They are just fuckin depressing to drive with due to their lack of traction.

I'll sign up for both events to help out the strip guys if decide to go.

^^ Figured as much. Don't know what you're missing until it's gone kind of deal. Just hope "we" as a car enthusiast community can support our local shops that step up and setup these events. I've only attended the two DaSilva track day events last year. The strip did seem pretty quite and the thought did cross my mind if strip portion would make the cut next time around. It is a blast running on both during the same day. Totally different rush for each. Fingers crossed. Thanks again Reon & gang for taking the time to get this event up a running for another season. Can't freakin wait!!

CALLING OUT EVERYONE WHO TALKS ABOUT DRAG RACING and isn't signed up for this event.

WTF is it with not being able to cough up $20 to run the strip even just once. Its less than half a tank of gas. I realize not everyone can just blow a day off work, but come on. I have done the road course 4x and have always coughed up the extra $20 to support the drag racing efforts, even tho my car has never been down the strip. Pretty disappointing to have to beg for 50 guys to drop $20 each to make the event complete.

On the flip side, if Uli doesn't get his shit together and have the drag strip prepped correctly and safely, then it is no wonder a lot of the fast boys are boycotting.

Cant suck and blow at the same time.

I'm hoping April 30th isn't too optimistic. March looks like its gunna be a shitty month. Fingers crossed April is an early summer.

I'll be running on street tires, and I'll gladly be the slowest around the track.

Matt, my offer still stands for you to whip it around the track so I can hear it lol.
I'm happy to help jib!

I feel like I need to clarify something. I'm not looking to get an R Comp tire.

I'm in need of anything better than the factory hockey pucks Ford put on this thing that's all.

I've got my eye on Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They have excellent reviews for my car and even the GT500.

My right rear tire is also running a plug and patch. So... Yeah. I'm due for some new rubber.

R Comp tires are last on my build list because frankly, I won't use them enough to justify the cost. After new street rubber comes suspension.

I am planning to go depends on where I am in my resto/rehabilitation. I will either be there with some new tires on larger wheels with new brakes
Or I will run with what ever it has on it currently....old street tires 15" rims and drums....could give a good baseline for BEFORE any mods
I wont set any records but I do know it will be one hell of a lot of fun

TurboFox, I'll be there. I went last year. I hear you on the excuse thing because I was like that. Then I said no more excuses. It's a long story but its how I ended up with my beautiful fiancée.

As far as the stock thing. Yeah what I mentioned is fuck all if it were a fox but have you seen the prices of parts for newer stangs?

If I could go dumpster diving and build a fast car like someone can with a fox I would, but that just doesn't work with a two year old car lol.

I'd love to have this thing on every suspension part from MM, hellion twin turbo kit, built transmission, aluminum drive shaft. Balls out craziness. But I don't have $25,000 for those parts lmao!

So I just buy little dribs and drabs as I go when I can. If I could get into the mustang game all over and if I knew how fun modding these cars can be. I probably would have started off with a Notch Fox. The money I've put into my 06 and now 14 I'd could of had an 8-9 second beast Lmfao! Wait that's not funny awww[emoji20]

Thing is though Ray, stuff your car comes with stock (engine, trans, suspension, brakes, etc) surpasses even some of the good aftermarket stuff on the older rides. Your car stock, yes even on dead nuts stock tires = very capable. All you need is more seat time.
Looking forward to seeing you both there.

its funny how a fast road course car has very little to do with power and everything to do with the lunatic/inert genius behind the wheel.

Best thing I ever saw at the track was a friends daughter lapping Shannonville in 1990 in her old rusty Volvo, amongst all the Porsches, Vettes and NSX's. She had a blast and drove the wheels off that thing. Pretty sure it had radial tires, lol.

It's funny how quick some of those corners sneak up on you. I was carrying too much speed into 12? and started to slide. I chickened out and just tapped the brakes ever so lightly. That little tap was enough to spin me around. Next lap I was still carrying too much speed into the same corner and this time I didn't brake and just kind of had a four wheel slide going and fish tailed with no spin. Thrid time was a charm...I just slowed down lol. Slow learner but lesson learnt. Correct your speed and finish all the braking before the turn. Balance and go. You can brake in to a corner to help turn-in and rotation once you've practiced it, but typically not a tap when you're already in there. That just upsets the balance of the car as you found out, especially if you're carrying too much speed, and the car is already thinking about rotating on you.

It's all about physics and weight transfer. Imagine that your car is balanced on a point where the weight is centered, and everything that you do with the brakes, throttle, and steering will tip it from that point. I sometimes used to do this on purpose with left foot braking after turn-in with my 95 SHO on a tight circuit like TMP or Mosport DDT, to get some weight transfer on the nose to help the rotation.

With Mustangs, that don't turn or stop very well, as you've discovered it's best to get your braking all done in a straight line, maybe even a bit more than you think you need to. If you don't have quite enough speed going in, it's always easy to add more with the available power on tap. Mustangs do one thing well ... accelerate. So adjust your driving style to take advantage of that!

Being as it's still so early, thought the sign up has been decent thus far.
Do hope the drag side ends up being a go, signed up for it myself in the hope it does, know a few others normally doing road course only have signed up as well.

I am not sure id Reon has mentioned this or not, will they be preparing both sides or just 1 lane?
If we are having issues fulfilling numbers would their be an option to only prep one side?
and have the other lane either closed or left open for those running street tires?

If you find your current seat belts are lacking when it come to spirited driving, may I recommend this little devise:

While it's no replacement for a full harness, it's a huge improvement over the stock belts.

Another option is to throw the 64lb nitrous donor bottle in the front passenger seat and take it to the track ...yes I have done this and filled bottles at night at the track for the next days racing...hmmm

You can also lock your belt to you by pulling it out sharply causing it to lock then slowly let it back in and it will remain locked until you push the button to release the belt.

Or you can twist them a couple of times to lock the bottom lap part, with still allowing the top to move.

As far as I know the driver's seat does not have the ratcheting feature. It's on all the passenger seats so you can use it to anchor a child car seat. At least that's how it is on my 06 and how it was on my 96.

True, but the nice thing about this device is it allows small incremental adjustments.

For the money, it's one of the best Mods for tracking a car without a proper seat and harness.

This.

Not meant to be equivalent to a seat and harness, but for a OEM setup it's a brilliant cheap little device.
I also like that when not in use, you just removed the locking plate and the seatbelt returns to normal operation. I just keep the plate in the glovebox.
