Bought a bike today so I can ride it to work. Work is close by so I'd save a reasonable amount.

Forgot to ask u yesterday if your practicing the beep test specifically for the ATS testing? If so, what's the minimum level required for that?

Yes I am. You need a minimum of 6.5. But that's after 2 min of doing a entire work out course. You need to prepare pretty well for it if you want to survive the beep test at the end.

New target, hitting the walk circuit twice a day. So long as the leg swelling stays manageable, will be totally doable. Started last night, just got in from round II this morning, feeling pretty good. For those sitting on the fence, hardest part is the first couple of three times, does get easier though.

I've been working on this core exercise trying to get stronger and smoother at it. They're decivingly hard to do. Going up is tough and coming down slowly; is even tougher. The 2 videos are about a week apart but you can see I'm a tad smoother in the 2nd video.

Goal is to come down super slow and add more reps.

Its only a 300lb deadlift but 4 sets at the end of the workout and the fact that its not perfectly balanced makes it a different ball game!

Well the first time I posted here (page 67 post #267) I weighed 248.5; that was March 2014. I did not get around to changing anything until this year.

Today I'm down to 211.2!
First I should say I'm diabetic and the weight had my sugar levels out of control. Carbs and starches really adversely affect my sugar levels.

So Around May of this year I changed my eating habits fairly drastically. I stopped eating breads and pastas. I still get carbs through veggies, but I concentrate on proteins. It obviously has gone well and I have few cravings. I do break once in a while if I'm out at an event or special occasion. The July trip to Denver set me back a few pounds but I was on vacation.

Sugar levels are almost normal. A few more weeks and they should be fine. (i have lost weight before with the levels being between 4 and 6)

I think I have a few more pounds to go, maybe 5 to 10, then I should be good (i'am 6'2").

I have done little exercise other than work around the house.

4th day on my detox
Full internal cleanse with natural herbs ( Yes the washroom and I, are becoming great friends in the morning)
It's the 4th day of quitting smoking, as I need my lungs for cardio ( It's harsh to go cold turkey but sometimes you need that instant shock)

So I use to be 200lbs back in Montreal, at 5"9 came to toronto to study, thanks to college and university eating habits I bumped up to 300 within 4 years between 2006 and 2010
In 2011 during my hunt for a job, I decided to start working out within 3 months I pretty much built my own dietary and work out schedule.
Cardio at 7am, breakfast right after, granola bar for lunch with protein shake and weight lifting and p90x cardio section before bed.

From january to march I lost 40 lbs.

Continued what I was doing until I put my body into diabetic shock and it started shooting insulin all over my legs. ( Black spokes emerged along my shin area )
Had to intake more glucose, as I was stressing my system beyond stable status!

But end result was in and I lost a whopping 80 lbs in a 6 month time frame.

Unfortunately I got a job as a I.T / Dispatcher in which I sat and eat most of the time and I went from 300 to 215 back to 240.

I found out I have a thyroid issue, and I retain water like a MOFO!!!

:D FUn time

Well back to starving and insane amount of cardio!!!

^ That's crazy man. Good job in trying to change your lifestyle. It's not easy!!!!

After getting laid off my full time job I started eating a lot. I went from 73kg to 79 kg. It's hard for me to change my diet so I had to turn to the gym 100%.

To make matters worse I have a chronic issue with my right shoulder which started to get worse now...My Massage Therapist noticed my shoulder is very stiff. She told me that I had to do something about it, stretches etc. I Ended up going to a Physiotherapist and she confirmed that I have shoulder impingement which is 100% treatable and most likely can be fixed. For now I can't do any upper body weight lifting. I can do core body workouts and Rows but I cannot lift any dumbbells etc. It was to say the least, demoralizing. I love lifting!

Good news is that I can jog and do leg exercises, leg press, etc. Today is my second day jogging. Started the C25K program on my android as of today. I dont care if I'm broke: my body is not invincible and my health is priceless!

Goodluck to everyone else who is trying to be healthy and fit!

I do my shoulder physio exercises at home almost every day. It works. No need to go to, and pay for physio. Understand the exercises, your limits and be self motivated. No one looks after your health but you.
Well I had to know exactly what was wrong with my shoulder. She said no exercises or stretching for now. She's trying to release the tightness, after that I know a few exercises. I appreciate the input.

Started working out again 2 months ago after a 2.5 year hiatus. Feeling great, making gains and getting leaner. Goal is 400lb bench press, 450lb Deadlift, 450lb squat (all for 1 rep max) by this time next year. My friend who is a personal trainer has me on a upper/lower split, benching 3 days a week with 1 second pause at the bottom of each rep. So far as good gained 80lbs on bench, 100lns on squat and 65lns on deadlift in 2 months.

Depression and food addiction are my downfall. Will power can usually get me on the right track with eating and exercise, but stress at work or at home and I sneak off for KFC or Timbits. It sucks shit. This year was particularly tough with a few things, work mostly, but it meant the 40+ lbs lost in 2014 were re-gained, and then some, and then some more. argh. Here's hoping 2016 is better.

Sounds like our years were quite similar. I was quite depressed all year. Didn't really attend any meets or pretty much do anything. Worst year yet to be honest. I also gained a ton of weight and now at my all time heaviest. I weighed myself last night because my father and I are having our own weight loss competition. I tipped the scale at 278.5lbs. I have never been this out of shape in my life.

Last night I walked on my treadmill for 30 min and then tried some yoga to loosen up. I was shocked at how difficult simple positions have become with my current physical condition.

My father and I will be weighing in every Sunday until our goals are met and then we'll set new goals. Lvl 1 is 20lbs.

I think I'll check back here every Sunday as well. I will never weigh 278.5lbs again!!

While I agree there may be better ways, no downside to cutting back on intake of what we all know to be crap and upping exercise, especially if it plays forward. Except for body wondering where the hell the Dr Pepper n Pizza is, feeling pretty dam good n lovin it, already back into the 225 range. Going to wing night tonight, will sub my usual with fries for a salad n grilled chicken n just a splash of dressing and a glass of water vs bottomless pop. Just a matter of adjusting is all, like to hit around 210, it's doable.
Trick will be not getting sucked back into overeating when I feel stressed or just plain down.

I'm working on getting in to shape. Currently weigh in at 185. I know that doesn't sound like much. But I'm short. 5 ft 6 inches on a good day. Looking to get back to 150 lbs. Cut out late night snacks, no coke (my kryptonite) cut out bread and hitting the weights every other day. Cardio every other day. Wife and I celebrate 20 years this April and are planning a trip to celebrate. Bathing suits will be worn. That's my motivation. Hope to post regular updates on here.

My favorite, take two bags of yer fav microwave popcorn (refrigerate first), cut the bags open and pour into a pot for popping, allow to melt on low, crank to medium once melted, hit high once it starts to pop. Totally unique flavor. Add in a couple of Dr Peppers over ice = pure heaven.
Downside, microwave popcorn is brutal on yer diet, butter I normally add takes it to ridiculous, Dr Pepper finishes off any chance of keeping the poundage off.
Why is "the good stuff" so damm bad for us. LOL

Taste is nothing like popcorn and oil or just popping in the microwave.
Naw, does wash it down in fine form though.

My daughter made me a jar of bacon jam for Christmas, as well as a jar of carrot cake jam.

I got the munchies on new years eve and had an inspiration. Toast, bacon jam and peanut butter. Excellent. I then made a second slice with the carrot cake jam added in, pure decadence.
Did you lose temporary feeling on the left side of your face from such a debauchery of a meal?

It's weigh in day. As promised here are my results.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/10/a618534cc9fccd2fa86c01fb0f966a11.jpg

Last week was 278.5 this week 274.0

This week I still ate like crap due to left over holiday junk food. I also went through a 12 pack of Coke, oh and it was my sisters birthday Wednesday so that meant all you can eat Sushi and two pieces of tuxedo cake back at her house. I also didn't work out Thursday or Saturday. I was shocked to see any kind of progress to be honest.

Next week will be vastly different. Almost no more junk food left over and I have one can of Coke left. It's very precious as I know I won't be buying another case any time soon. Saving it for when I need it lmao! Should see similar results next week. Hoping for another 4+ lbs loss.

Glad to see some of you are really trying at the healthy lifestyle. Its definitely made an impact on my resolve!

Today marks 1 Week and a half of no pop, sugary drinks or sugar added in tea or coffees. The switch made me substitute lack of sugars for an increased appetite...This won't do.
Last night marked the final night I would over indulge in carb rich foods.

Food:
The law is no more F--ing carbs. Bought very low carb veggie based foods from the local healthfood store (ambrosia).
No more rice, bread, noodles or carb rich desserts.

Exercise:
So far, been going to the gym 3-5 times per week for the past 2 and a half weeks. Rotating days with weight lifting and cardio.
Today is weight lifting day, shoulder is bugging me but I'm doing strengthening exercises to rehabilitate it.
Started deadlifts, did max 165lb but my back doesn't like it and neither do I. (even lower weights irritate my back).
Started Squats, which I prefer instead of deadlifts. For some reason my back tolerates squats more. Might be doing something wrong with deadlifts.

Once I see some weight reduction I'll be slowly reintroducing carbs at a small level. For now, knowing myself well, going cold turkey is the best thing I can do.

I can't stand looking at my stomach anymore. It makes me sick seeing how much I destroyed my physical appearance. This is where I finally put my foot down.

Harbinger
01-13-2016, 02:32 PM
back soreness could be due to hamstring tightness, it sure is with me. I have to make a conscious daily effort to stretch my hamstrings.

I roll out of bed and do 100 bodyweight squats almost every day, and then do a few ham stretches. I've been taking a 10-15 minute exercise break a couple times a day instead of a coffee or whenever I get cold. I do bodyweight chin ups almost every day along with a few sets of push ups. Wakes me up bettern'n a coffee and I can do chin ups all day long now. I'll be back rock climbing very soon.

I do a few minutes of abs in the evening most days for core strength which is paying off as well. I find these little mini work outs very easy to fit in and good for invigorating me. Also handy to warm up before going into the unheated garage or out to shovel.

I started doing this for stress relief a few months ago (which was effective) and have carried on with it since a significant stressor has left.

I can't say I'd recommend the stress diet but my body fat is around 7% right now.
Yea I do have really tight hamstrings. I'll make more effort into stretching them but I hate doing it...stretching toward my feet is probably the most uncomfortable feeling ever and I suck at it.

7% is very little that's a dream body percentage for me. You're pretty fit. I'm trying my best to better myself but nothing happens over night. The extra weight doesn't help me. Gotta be careful with my shoulder and over doing it. Still sore from 2 days ago and going back to the gym tonight after work. Shoulder is slowing me down but it'll get better eventually.

Really awesome that you are able to get up and do all that stuff. Kudos to you. Maybe someday I'll be as ritualistic as you haha

Doing a combo of, monitoring wt loss + how my clothes are fitting + how I feel to judge progress. All coming back thumbs up thus far. Have found in the past, get discouraged too easily if I don't see wt loss every week, especially if one week turns into three or even worse if I bounce up a pound or two. While Friday is the designated "cheat day" not falling completely off the wagon and doing an all day pig out. Not a perfect system but working for me.

Ray,

If it makes you feel better, I too have bumped the scale up 2 lbs this week and I have been walking 4km every day at a brisk paces. Eating fish for supper and no sweets.

Don't let the scale dictate your improvement. Your body right now might be under the weather so yes a loss in energy will be normal. Keep working at it and you will drop the pounds if you simply just start eating right. Exercise is just the bonus to dropping the pounds and will strengthen your body.

You can do it Buddy, I have known you for 4 years and this weight gain didn't happen in a month, so chin it up............That is what I tell myself

Harbinger

Also keep in mind ups and downs in weight can also be just water retention. Minimizing salt will get the water flushing out of your system and help with the metabolic process. Easier said than done lol

To any of the people near Bowmanville, if you are looking for a physical work out I would recommend Kalsamrit muay thai. I have been a member for 2 years and it is a well run club. I am 50 years old and got back into the martial arts about 5 years ago. I have lost approximately 20 lbs. since I started and have kept it off. I still need to lose more and I am slowing working on it. They have boxing, muay thai, bjj and strength and conditioning classes. You get a free week to try it out. They have a facebook page and a website. Just a suggestion.

A very good friend of mine is one of the strength and conditioning coaches. His name is Mitch, him and I were in Afghanistan together. Tell him Brian (22 Bravo) says hi.

I'm taking your advise Rick.....Don't watch the scale, it may not drop every week. I have been walking 5.3 km each day and watching what I eat and MAN, do I feel much better for it. By the way Wendy's makes a real good salad with lots of goodies in the bowl.

Great job gents! Keep it up!!! :)

I'm right on track as well.. These last 5 pounds to hit my first goal are a tough one to get rid of..... I keep hovering at the 205 mark since last week. Been doing lots of cardio and hitting the weights. I'm getting smaller though, so I know the fat is being replaced with muscle.. And I'm still off carbs... Maybe need moar salads..lol.. I miss pizza...lol..

Been hitting over 20,000 steps per day though!!! :)

I feel fantastic to boot!!!! (and I look a hell of a lot better and thinner!!) Started @ 275 and now 205.. Not too shabby!!!! :)

I'm back on bread again but only about half of what I used to eat. Tired of oatmeal for breakfast.

Took a realistic approach when I opted to cut way way back. Cold turkey for me has always meant short time losses followed by po'd at the world when I don't stick with it. Even easier when Kath n Ross and I are doing it together. Don't know how she sticks it out with the gluten free stuff though, bulk of it tastes so flippin bad.

Starting to smarten up here. Down 10.5 lbs in just under a month. Not going at it hard but trying to walk about 2-3 km a day and being smarter about what I eat. Went a little off track during the Superbowl, but did go for an 80 minute walk before the game, and pigged out at Tuckers for my birthday but back on track now. Once I get some stamina I will go back to the P90X.

Superstore and Sobey's actually have some pretty decent gluten free stuff out now. The Mother In Law found out she can't eat wheat a couple months ago so we have been eating some and it isn't what I was expecting. I couldn't eat it all the time because lets face it what's better then a ham sandwich on fresh Wonder white bread?

Sooooo.. Stupid me got on the scale this morning (i'm still shaking my head at that) lol.. I went up 1.5lbs. BUT, the good news is my body fat dropped another 2.0%. So that tells me I'm packin on a bit of muscle.. So the 1.5 isn't too much of a bad thing, but still trying to hit that 200lbs mark makes it a tick harder.. I think I'm gonna drink moar water today and less coffee... But I so love delicious coffee....lol...

I'm not even looking at the scale anymore. Its not indicating midsection loss for me. I'm doing the visual thing.

Upside I've been making home made food lately. Cilantro stuffed chicken thighs with coconut oil. Been eating sticky white rice (with a bit of soy sauce) with veggies and chicken for the past 2 days. Made cilantro sauce / marinade earlier and also making bok choy tonight. Me and the gf swore an oath to never go out and eat for the rest of the month but only make home made food.

So far so good.

Started @ 278 down to 262 and looking to be 230 before July. Took me 6 years to get from 218 to the 278 mark, so thinking a slow steady drop is best for me.

Still working it daily. People think I have lost more than I have, but I will credit that to the exercise adding the tone to the body.

Great job gents..

HD. If you want to drop that 30 by July cut back on a few carbs. Stick to 40 grams per day or less and the weight will shed off like crazy. So you don't have to cut them out completely.
Myself I stick to 25 grams per day or under and I find it progresses very fast.. Well you saw my before and after pic..lol..
Glad to hear your getting out and moving. It helps a great deal! Since I started exercising in January I've been getting smaller and smaller. My skinny clothes are how hanging off of me. So all you guys here keep at it, don't worry if you have a bad day (I've had several) lol. Just get back on that horse and keep on motorin!! :)

Today starts my strength training. Up till now I've been doing 95% cardio to lose the fat (and it's worked) So today I get back on my Total Gym and my elliptical. 60 minutes daily for now. 30 and 30!!
I had some video footage done at a studio over the weekend with the band I noticed that even though I'm down 75lbs, I still look pudgy.. So now time to firm it all up and get my last 20lbs off!!!
