Very interesting article I came across after looking into oil breakdown vs temp, as I saw 260* on the gage at DDT on Sunday (because I was running my street rad flap instead of the longer track version, duh!)

Will be taking the filter and oil to someone to analyze. PSP has a filter cutter, but I was thinking of having someone chemically analyze the oil for breakdown, foreign substance content and whatever else is usually done. Anyone know who performs this service in the GTA or at least southern Ontario?

As an Amsoil Dealer I have access to kits that we can send samples of oil, coolant, diff fluid, or trans fluid to Oil Analyzers in Edmonton. Link Here (http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/other-products/oil-analysis-services/oil-analyzers-test-kit-(canada)-ups-pre-paid/?code=KIT401-EA?zo=5091405). But there is no option for testing the oil filter through them. I have just sent a sample to them for my DD F-150 so I will post the results when I get them.

Here is a test I did last year so you can see what they test for:

The only ones I know of in the GTA are Cat (heavy equipment) Dealers, but I'm not sure if they will test a vehicle sample because they haven't returned my phone call yet, and Fluid Life in Brantford. I have no experience with them though so I don't know prices or what they offer.

thx guys.
I try to change it every thousand or 2 km; going to have it analyzed more for info than to try and save / extend the life. The motor is expensive - an oil change costs about $75 in materials and a bit of time; pretty easy math.
Ryan; a couple of things:

1) is there a baseline that shows the various components/ppm's of fresh oil?
2) is there a list of acceptable limits or ppm on all the categories?
3) is there a measurement for heat damage/overheating/coking etc?
