Hello everyone,

05 gt mustang, left work yesterday drove perfectly fine for the first 10-20 minutes as soon I got on yorkdale, I hit just around 3000 rpm and the car starting shaking.

I did not pay too much attention to it and drove it all the way to 401 and Avenue in which the car started losing lots of power and shaking pretty bad with some mild miss fire/ pop noise.

Now on idle it just sounds really weird and it struggles like the clutch is slipping kinda like a go stop go stop motion and then once it around 2k it's ok.

The flashing CEL like did come on in which I pulled over, but no check engine like got thrown other than the p2004/p2005 in which I had for a bit of time as I await the gasket to come in.,

Drove it home slowly parked it up,

Coolant looks google level
Oil looks good no foam/milkshake viscosity

I had the spark plugs replaced recently by champion, hopefully they did not go bad or the COPS.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ponyryd

What gasket are you waiting for? Not familiar with 2004/2005 but 3004/3005 codes are cyl 4 and 5 misfire, which is strange since they are on different banks. Either way it looks like you have one or two dead cylinders, pull the coils and plugs and see what's going on, just an FYI-as if Ford spark plug designs weren't bad enough, they also decided that standard spark plug sockets aren't cool so you'll need a 9/16" spark plug socket for the plugs, and a 7mm I believe for the coils, that or an 8mm.

Could it be cam phasers? Heard they like to crap out at higher miles.

Hey Guys

So No, I haven't changed that pype yet. - Rick

Ponyryd - Intake manifold gasket the one that goes between the intake plates and the engine.

Ray721- Oh god I hope it not that... Rick and I had a talk about that already.

If it does turn out to be the Cam Phasers, at 196,000 I recommend you do all the timing components.

http://www.tascaparts.com/timing-and-drive-related/timing-chain-kit-modular-4.6l3v/m-6004-463v/?parent=1067

Even with the CDN dollar where it is, this will still likely be the best deal.

Sorry if they actual can supply it, this would be the best deal at $526.44 CDN.

Thanks Scott,

Hopefully it's just a bad COP, currently waiting for 11am to hit so I don't bother my neighbours too much.

Well, Went outside looking for any vacuum leak, no luck.
Pulled each COP plug every one of them changed the sound of the idle.

I am puzzled to why I have lost almost all power.
The valve cover region sounds pretty noisy. Could bad oil cause this?! the oil is hitting 5k in which I was going to change it today and now this happen.

Trip to the Dr Zr, from some TLC for car.

Well I contacted them, they have lots in stock.

My cousin at part source said 200 bucks for 1 phazer. so 600 bucks for the entire kit not bad + labour I can deal.

Seems like every year when I am about to get my income tax money... the car takes the biggest shit to spend it.

Last year clutch install job failed by the previous guy costing me a new flywheel ending up killing my entire tax refund.

Pretty this if it's the phazer i'm screwed once again lol.

I read a lot of forums on High idle, rough idle with lost of power.

Most likely the phazer took a crap.

Can I just buy those lock out ? and dont ever worry about this again? I don't even care for MPG.. ( if that what the purpose of the phazer is for)

Ol Paint did something similar earlier this year and it turned out to be the alternator and camshaft position sensors. What codes did you get when you scanned it?

No code at all.
it's weird / odd, I just checked the alternator. It's putting out 13.5v

Car starts bucking, missing, and losing power and you don't know what's causing it .....not sure I'm driving all the way home and potentially wrecking the engine.

I would suspect the timing control solenoids rather than the phasers themselves.

It's had some concerning valve train noises on start up after oil changes for some time now. Hard to say if it's related or not until pulled down.

:( Whatever caused the failure -_- It suck knowing the failure was during a simple gear shift between 3 and 4 doing 80km at literally 3000 rpm and not hurling ass in 2nd at 5600 rpm.

Oh well, :) When the new engine is in, I can have a piece of mind that I will be the one to have maintenance at a young age!

so you drove it with issues... first rule is to stop driving when something doesn't feel right to prevent further damage. if anything throw a coyote motor in it

bit dif if you know the issue and isn't a huge one that would cause your engine to pop

ZR

More likely than not, damaged when it first hiccupped n started to run poorly. On the flip side, general rule of thumb, if it feels bad, stop driving asap.

Oh I KNOW mine could cause the engine to pop, but I don't care to fix it so just gonna drive till it stops, lol.
But for the record, I've driven with misfires many times, my current car misfires when it rains, I still give er though, like I said, don't care to fix it, lol.
I don't baby anything, drive it like you stole it or take the bus :)

Well All the thanks and appreciations to all the hard work done by Rick
From hunting for a motor, driving down all the way to Windsor to check it out and a 2nd time to pick it up and of course the huge transplant!

The car just sounds and feel like a whole complete different girl! The start up is just crips! the shifting gear to gear makes a beautiful and nasty sound at the same time

Feels good to be reunited back with the lady.

Cheers to a very good fellow!

Bone stock out of a written off 07 GT with 1500 km's on the clock (yes 1500, able to verifiy before they removed the engine) . Bought it as a complete drop out with all sensors etc + factory H pipe with 02's.

Old engine = one cyl with zero compression, one virtually zero. Running solidly on the remaining 6 though.

Yes I was driving a v6.1 for day or 2 before getting the diagnose it was pooched

Well it was most definitely a good investing, as I saw the old engine sitting on the engine stand looked like it had better days and needed a million parts replaced in the near future..

Even if it did need a new cat... maybe it was good sign to just replace it before it failed on me during my lets say my 2000km cruise in the summer. to Mtl, quebec (driving around quebec/montreal) and back! :P

They still have the auto trans, computer, wiring and some body parts (passengers side plus some front / rear pieces). Rest of the car is badly damaged including bulk of the interior and diff (left axle sheared off, did not look close enough to see if the housing is damaged as well). I found them from a Kijiji ad for the engine and trans. Terrific to deal with, took extra care to remove the engine without any broken or damage parts. County Collision in Harrow, Ont.
When we first started looking, fully expected it to be a slam dunk to find a clean low miler locally. Little to none in Ont (all big kms), few in the 120-130km range in Quebec, couple or three 10-20k milers on the US side but at around 3k US plus shipping and exchange the numbers just didn't work.
Since the car has nearly 200k on the clock, bonus we found one complete will all sensors, injectors, TB, alt, starter, etc. Nothing better than a fresh engine with all the fresh bits to go along with it.
At 3k, engine fully dressed with front pipe and including tax's, good buy. Stress free being able to see and hear it still in the car plus ability to confirm mileage is legit. Only downside, between the trip down to hear it run, return trip to pick it up, clocked around 1600kms total. Still well worth if for an absolute cherry of an engine + got to stop n chat with Scott B over lunch on the way home.
Life is good.
