View Full Version : Rear ended by a texter

Just got rear ended by a texting driver doing 100 kph in a 60 zone, on my way to the Dasilva cruise for Sick Kids. The scum bag was charged with Careless driving.

He hit a car behind us and they smashed into us at a red light. Zero attempt to brake. Not even a sorry. My wife was hospitalized and fortunately has no broken back or neck, which they suspected at first. The car in the middle has an occupant in hospital. My car is a mess. Hoping the frame is not damaged.

Here are a few pictures of the asshole, his plate number. His 8 year old son was with him. Which prevented me from taking immediate action. I will get his name and address with the report.

If you text and drive, here's what will happen. More to come with the scums full name and all other info. This has just started for me.

Take one texting asshole, a silver Chevy Equinox - plate number BZHZ 596, smash into another car at 100 kph and have them smash into us.... and you get my wife in a hospital and the nice man behind us with severe injuries.

Crap, sorry to hear about that Mark. Hopefully your wife and the other vehicle occupants will be OK. This happened to my brother in his DD a few years back fortunately at a lower speed, but with no middle car as a "buffer zone".

yikes, I hope your wife is ok and that nothing turns up for you. Sometimes car accident injuries can take a while to show up, like whiplash. Cars can be fixed or replaced.

After dropping my daughter off at school the other day I went around the round-about and was coming back against the lane that had all the cars dropping the kids off. a woman in a Lexus, on the phone pulled out in front of me and did a u-turn!! when she finally saw me (now in the middle of a panic stop into her passenger door, she froze and locked the brakes! She just sat there blocking across the road in front of me. she said something to the person on her phone, then put down her window and shouted at me to slow down!! like it was my problem that I nearly ruined her no-look, distracted illegal u-turn. I just don't get what can be so important to people that they need to be on the phone or texting while driving. things were so much safer when these phones were not around.

The Mrs is home now. Like a few of you mentioned, I think she will seize up more over the next few days. So far, I am fine. I'm just happy she is good. Spoke to Joe and he is going to work with Baseline Collision to get my ride back. Need to get back to cruise with Uncle Buck and our new DOB Gang of 2

I just read your post in the DOB thread, then this one. Damn! Glad you and your wife are okay. The car doesn't look too bad. I can totally understand your anger towards this dipshit, I had my old coupe t-boned by an idiot driver.

We thought about you often today during the cruise. Joe made an announcement at the end of the cruise that your wife had been released home which was some relief. Glad to hear no serious injuries to you guys but hopefully the other occupants of the vehicle he hit directly recover well. People need to learn to put their phones away if you don't have hands free! Worst part is the moron had his kid in the car as well. Hope they throw the book at him.

Sorry to hear.
I hope all of you will be ok. Your wife will be in a lot of pain tomorrow for sure. Make sure she keeps moving so the muscles don't lock up. Heat and cold will help. Go see your family doctor right away and get checked out. The hospital does not do a thorough job unless there's broken bones. Hire a lawyer and go after the dick.
After my accident last year (still not back to work) by a texter. The hospital only did a cat scan of my neck, said I would be in some pain the next day and to take some Advil. What a croc, I couldn't move in the morning but forced myself up out of bed and went to work anyways but I couldn't sit or stand without pain. The pain was unbearable. Mri months later showed a bulged disk in my lower neck and lower back. Dislocated some ribs from the seat belt and had whiplash. While I am getting better. I'm still in pain and in therapy almost a year and half later. If it wasn't for my family doctor doing what I asked by sending me to a specialist right away. I would have been forced back to work.

Good luck to you all

I wish it was immediate jail time for these distracted pieces of shit. Buy dash cams, folks.

The insistent use of phones is insane among young kids. Last week I went to my daughter's school to watch a play/dance thing that she was in. There was one part that 3 Grade 8 girls were in. As soon as it was finished they left the stage and all 3 got immediately onto their phones to check texts and take selfies! I really fear for what it will be like when they are driving. Hopefully there is technology that shuts phones down while in cars.

Sucks to have this happened to anyone. Seriously, cars should be equipped with a device that'll disable the usage of any mobile electronics while in operation mode.
Hope the wife will be ok.

Anyways, are you thinking of suing?

Worse!

At least a drunk driver has his eyes on the road. ....albeit blurry.

We are suing. I want to destroy the loser. What pisses me off now is the excessive focus on drive clean and certification criteria, when a massive issue is staring the government in the face. Texting and driving is going to cause more vehicular death and damage than speeding or impaired. The fine needs to get elevated now, with an automatic 30 day suspension.

30 days is not enough... make it a year. Our governments are retarded. I hope you win the case(s) there's no text or facebook post worth getting into a crash for. I hope the loser has to walk the rest of his life, no more car for him.

Good good, douch needs to learn his lesson. The other guy that was involved should sue as well.

Ok, the Misses is feeling alot better and the body shop has started the repair process after the sllllloooowwwwww insurance appraisal process was completed. In celebration of the car's return, I thought I'd buy the car some Mickey T Street SS and extra rims for track time. Thanks for the well wishes to my wife, she did appreciate the support.

I've spoke with Mark a couple times, not sure how long till he is on here again. He has had a tough couple months.
Cars been repaired but he has some issues with the paintwork to get fixed. Not long after he got hit by another texter while driving his land rover. I told him he needs to move. Lastly his wife has had some medical issues but is on the road to recovery. I'll let him post if he wants to divulge more.
We may be going to the track soon and he will be coming to Dasilvas BBQ.

Hey guys, apologies for dropping out of existence. We spent a straight month in the hospital after my wife developed a staph infection that went septic. Almost lost her a few times over the past 4 weeks. After 4 weeks in ICU and 2 surgeries, she is finally home, but has a portable unit that delivers antibiotics 7/24 until mid Sept. Big thank you to the Drs at Toronto General caridac and infectious disease specialists. The original source of infection seems ro date back to the accident. Legal is highly engaged now that she is out of the woods. Wecare shooting for the Dasilva Sick Kids event as an outing.
