Just seen the third vehicle have a problem running the OEM nut. What happens, floating washer on the nut breaks into pieces and falls off leaving the nut loose and axle free to float around. Over time, it can eat the hub away until it breaks and or the axle bearing disintegrates. In my case, ate the splines out of the hub leaving the axle free wheeling as if it were broken. Thankfully, Ford has an updated nut, best to change yours before you have an issue.

OEM nut with floating washer.

Updated nut looks similar to this with washer part of the nut itself.

Don't risk damage to your shaft by using bad nuts.

This why you're the good doctor, prevention and cure! Passing this along to a few Cobra buddies, cheap insurance.

The new version is less expensive as well. Retail $7.93 each. Same nut used on the newer Expedition and Navigator IRS, so these should be available for a while.

Is anyone applying loctite to the nut? Also, what size socket do we need for this bad boy?

These new ones are a Nylok style nut with the insert that provides the locking mechanism, so thread locker should not be needed.

TTT............just had another one in with a broken washer on the OEM nut.
Update now, yes it can quickly become a safety issue.
