One of the upgrades I'm planning is to swap the heavy factory 2 piece DS for an aluminum tapered 4" to 3" DS from the Axle Exchange on my lowered '10 GT. I know all of the stated benefits as given by testimonial videos. What I would like to hear is local experience with the swap. Many of us with S197's experience some driveline vibration at highway speeds. What's your experience with a shaft swap? Elimination of vibration? Any unforeseen issues caused by the swap? Would you recommend doing it? It ain't cheap but if vibration is eliminated and throttle response improves I would do it.

Not much feedback from the V8 guys we've installed them for. However, the difference it makes on the V6 is night n day with hugely reduced driveline vibration (+ not likely to see another driveshaft failure).

I have had a 4" Axle Exchange one piece installed in my 08 since April 2010. I have had absolutely no issues but, my car is not a DD.

What I heard was the ebrake cable sometimes needs to be relocated a bit. Was not an issue on mine.

I've got a stock 2pc shaft with 4.10 gears and have no issues at all. No vibrations. It is an auto so maybe there is less stress on the shaft on hard launches but I wouldn't spend the money unless I got serious power upgrades. I currently on have cams, CAI, mufflers and a tune. I've also run it up as high as 200 kph with no issues.

I can confirm all the same with a stick car launched on radials (1.67) (lots of drive line shock) nothing on the highway or trips to Mexico.
That said the aluminum is on my to do list for the weight savings, that's a huge chunk of rotating mass.

Wow, those V6's must really put out more power than I thought! I guess V6 and V8's don't share the same driveshaft.

I'll bet it gets pretty sporty when it lets go!

I'm sure it's not a pleasant experience.

I have the DSS CF shaft, you can lift it with your finger. It has been installed for a few years now with no install or vibration issues.

That's one cool looking piece of carbon fibre. What are you driving?
