View Full Version : Turbo on a Mach 1?

I'm entertaining the thought of a single turbo setup in the future. Is it worth it ? Is it better to just do an eaton swap if I want more power in the future ? What is the community's thoughts?

IMO a Mach is a model day collectible so mods need to consider that. I.e. Never lose to shaker.

If it were mine, I think I'd build power the old fashion way and stay NA.

I like both power adders. I think it comes down to preference... And a nice set of lumpy cams too :D

Definitely a collectable but underpowered. I think ford left the mach 1 to be desired...front end should have had the cobra 99/01 or even the 03/04 cobra or something more unique. Should have had a super charger as an option or larger engine

Didn't you buy this one in Auto because you wanted it to be a nice easy to use DD? Aftermarket Forced Induction on your DD is a recipe for trouble IMO.

But I want more power lol. How is it a recipe for disaster?

Turbos probably will have more issues then a blower (heat, controlling boost etc) autos will help keep the car in boost better with a turbo.
I say do it it's just a car.

Put on a blower with low boost and u shouldn't have a problem

Tuning/street manners/heat etc plus the power corrupts, you will always want one more PSI. Just not a great call for a car you want to behave like stock in traffic IMO. I mean it could work but you will be throwing money at it at first. Figure $4000 for a good quality kit, plus fuel system mods, then install (or DIY to save) then a good handheld and exceptional tune. Better part of $6500 to do it all to the T which is what you want for everyday use.

I'd do bolt on's and gears first. if that's still not enough then maybe see how it goes.

Wouldnt a eaton swap still allow it to behave normally in traffic? I thought aggressive cams is what reduces streetability or some crazy twin turbo setup

Cobra swap would be epic with perfect street manners, especially cool through an auto.

you my friend should do more research.....

you no more will blow up your engine with nitrous then you would with either a supercharger or a turbo. good thing about nitrous, not street legal, so you won't always be using it....turbo or SC you will always want to get into it...placing your motor under strain and thus increasing the risk of "Blowing up" your motor.

While Hellion does make a Mach 1 kit, all in price is not for the faint of heart.

A shame Kenne Bell dropped the Mach kit.

I called and asked a year or two ago, they said no but worth a call to see if anything has changed.

There is one in the area that has a vortech on it. Grabber blue one.
I have seen it on a few cruises and at the Dasilva BBQ.

PD blower and keep the shaker FTW

Forget what I said earlier, go get that Mach some boost.

A mach motor with is fun to drive IMO. I have the same engine as you (6 bold crank and all) Keep the revs under 7000 and hp under 475. My eaton spike tos 11 psi but settles at 9. it has perfect street manners and still gets good gas mileage.

Thanks everyone leaning towards a eaton swap or even a 03 04 cobra swap so i have the beefed internals. Gonna happen in 2017 spring or summer time

Is it more worth it to just do a complete 03 04 cobra swap or get the eaton swap parts and build my current motor ?

Stock Cobra blower on your current engine is fine.

You can imagine what it would be like if it was though right!? lol

The KB kits for the Machs were pretty friggin sweet!!!

ZR

Now the cars had dropped into the more affordable range, you'd think it would be the prime time for KB to sell a bunch of kits.

Makes you wonder what their smoking over at the KB head office??

Same as the demand for 5.0 / Fox kits. Add in an intercooler version and it would be mega.

I think procharger had a kit that allowed the shaker to stay functional as well, for the people that wanted it to stay closer to mach 1 stock. Im pretty sure SVOMACH1 and I were reading about them a few years ago

I've though about the procharger. In the end I decided the eaton swap would look pretty cool with the supercharger under the shaker. I'm sure its possible to make the shaker functional even for a super charger. Custom fit tubing maybe ?

Might be difficult given the snout being where the shaker brought in air. The m112 is cool, you wont hear me argue otherwise (I may be bias as I bought one to put on my v6) and Im going to end up with either a Y2K hood or a mach 1 hood with the m112 hiding under the shaker as I need to due to the supercharger sitting so high on the v6

I think etobicokian has a mach 1 hood if youre thinking about it

The eaton swap is still in the air. I might be financing a newer winter car but if I find a winter beater that will cost me little to nothing and does not need major repairs, the eaton project would probably be ago for next year.
