Went to look at the car solo since I was in the area. I let the salesman know I wanted to quickly look over the general condition of vehicle without test drive but will return with wife if everything is ok.I did not discuss any pricing. After I ask for business card he says its on his desk, we go inside I remain standing waiting for card; it seems he can't find any in his desks

just a few lines that was said while he looked for business card

" What can we do to make this sale happen now?"
" you saw the vehicle is there something that your wife will see differently?"
" Today is your lucky day ( lol) "

but the one that tops it off..

I said " the sale is not happening today- if the vehicle is still here tomorrow then fine- if it sells before then well congrats on the sale"
he mentions something like he understands that I have to consult with the wife, heck don't want to get divorced over a vehicle, but maybe that might be in your favour.:slap:

sorry for the long ass rant

Out of respect for some of us that are involved with dealerships/ branding in some capacity or another, I will tell you its not local to us and not a small dealership

After the loss of some “friends” a couple of months ago I’ve slowly come to a startling realization. For so long I’ve been consumed with everyone else’s opinion.
Every thing I do has been lead by the thoughts like what would “blank” think of this or would this work when we go away with “blank” next year. Even things like if I buy this or do this will “blank” be upset.

Worse part is I’ve spend so much time an energy trying to make everyone else happy. I don’t think I know how to do me any more.

Like ZR said it does get easier. I started in the fire department at 36 after driving truck for 16 years. After the first couple weeks of the 16 week recruit class, learning started to come back. I found that keeping the distractions to a minimum helped a lot. Not easy with a 6 year old in the house. you’ve already made the decision to switch careers, not an easy thing to do by any means, so you’ll do fine. May just take a few weeks.

RCMP in Blackville are warning people who stole live lobster from an overturned transport truck in the village on Tuesday not to eat them.
The live lobsters were contaminated with diesel fuel from the crash and are unfit for human consumption, Sgt. Brent Johnston said in a news release.
The crash occurred on Highway 8 around 2 a.m., and the lobster spilled onto the road, said Johnston.
"A number" of lobsters were stolen from the scene before police arrived, he said.
The driver was treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.

If that very same piece was under a hood & there was a hose off ud figure it out in a sec ... ;)

it's funny you mention that...when I was on the phone with Rick lastnight, I said to him, "This reminds of the drain hoses that came off the shaker in the Mustang, should I just plug it back in"?

The Mach has two hoses that come down, one is a drain for the top of the shaker so the top doesn't fill up with water and it just runs down and out the bottom of the car but that's what this reminded me of...

And as obvious as this seemed to be, like Don mentioned, when it comes to the Furnace I really don't want to mess with it, no matter how simply or obvious it seems, so with Rick's help and your confirmation that it was corrected, I definitely felt a whole lot better after

Thanks again guys...

I think Trump is courting the perception he's a buffoon. It's disarming. He immediately tanked the diversity lottery.

Yup, while the biggest threat to Americans (based on lives lost on US soil since the start of his administration) are other Americans who look just like them. Added to that, law enforcement in the US is saying the NY attacker was radicalized inside the US so killing the lottery won't help either.....but it's a feel good TV moment.

Aren't several of the major world leaders in Asia for meetings? Trump is offshore as well for US Memorial Day commemorations. Canadian PMs (or other world leaders) usually participate or observe the occasion wherever they are. The PMs itinerary for November 11 notes this (I assume it's local time in Asia):

6:30 p.m. The Prime Minister will participate in a Ceremony of Remembrance.

Didn’t realize he was at apec, he gets a hall pass

They (country leaders) have been there most of the week - steady stream of news about meeting topics, discussions, and outcomes. Was not just Trump's Asia trip although the headlines were mostly about that. had to go to the proverbial "page 2" to get news about what was going on with discussions amongst the other countries in attendance.

Was this a Rebel Media or pigeon guy thing you posted?

Nope - take a look at Harper's visit to Asia in 2012 - he did the same back then - visited a memorial site and observed the occasion from there. There wasn't any "bitching" back then from either side.

I know the answer....and it is not black and white as to the reason for him missing the meeting (sub-meaning is embedded in what happened afterwards) which is what the initial headlines on day of focused on - was trying to understand your opinion on it (the meeting itself) and what happened afterwards, and whether that supports or contradicts the reason for missing the meeting (Canadian trade with Asia as well as US is also part of the reason). If you don't want to share that is fine.

OK thanks - you are correct in that he missed the meeting claiming a scheduling snafu because he was meeting with Abe and that meeting was extended and missed this other meeting as a result. Subsequent information/decisions indicated that attending the meeting could have been worse for Canada, Canadian businesses, and Canadian taxpayers (as well as US-Canada relations due to Trump's past decision - by the way, we export more to the US than Asia). Could he have attended and said no - maybe but that could have been diplomatically worse if the other members were forcing Canada into a corner. My guess is Harper would have pulled a similar stalling tactic to buy time to come back with a new proposal rebuttal that puts Canada in a stronger bargaining position.

Sounds like something worth learning more about. Got a link or any info on the issues on the table?

No specific link but it started last year during and after the US election campaign (look into history of TPP and review the APEC headlines from this week in terms of how events unfolded).

Coles notes: Canada and US sign on to TPP; lots of criticism and opposition to TPP as it could disadvantage Canadian companies (does give access to Asian markets but not open borders/markets like NAFTA). Note that China was against/out of TPP from the beginning as it would reduce their power in the AP region; Trump pulls out of TPP because he said it would disadvantage the US; Canada remained in but walking a fine line since signing on it was originally written could piss off the Americans and hurt our trade relations with them even more - they are our biggest export market currently; Trump pulling out of TPP actually worked in China's favour as it put them back in the driver's seat on any regional free trade deals (we have a trade deficit with China today); the meeting in Vietnam was about TPP and AP leaders were looking to get Canada to agree to a series of conditions in the deal negotiations; Trump's praise of an autocratic Communist leader in China this week threw a wildcard into the mix as any human rights or other trade leverage that EU and Canada had in the negotiations have to be re-visited and re-strategized as the game rules have changed (it's all very Sun Tzu) before coming back to the table; Trudeau did have a meeting with Abe (a bigger trading partner than Vietnam, and that Canada wants to be bigger in terms of our exports to them) before the Vietnam meeting, and the Abe meeting was extended so conflicted - a little convenient when you step back and view the whole chess board but a convenient excuse to buy time. If you only look at the one headline from the day Canada "missed" the meeting it looks bad but if you view it as part of everything in the TPP lifecycle (and Trump in China this week) it makes more sense.

So on the one hand you have Canada and US/China/Japan while on the other hand you have Canada and Vietnam/SK/Australia/etc - had to choose one in the short term to maintain and one to let slip and repair afterwards. The trade team chose to protect the first set of relationships and strategically beg forgiveness with the second.

If you go back and read up on TPP which still doesn't gave Canada equal reciprocal access to all AP markets, eg. we are historically disadvantaged with access to SK and will remain so under TPP although a little better than today; we're also disadvantaged with China/Japan market access but if China takes a front seat with an AP free trade bloc then you can see Chinese growth go up from 5-6% to a higher number in a billion plus consumer market (started under Harper and adopted by Trudeau but the game has changed globally since then because NAFTA is up for negotiation, Brexit happened, CETA happened, etc) and the evolution since 2015 to this past week that should get you up to date.

Sorry for the data dump - I just typed some of what was in my head on this topic.

Can you provide more articals on the subject?

I don’t buy a meeting going a half hour over shedual as an excuse to cancel an entire meeting. (One that could have taken hours)

Second. According to Australian news sources when this story broke there was no notification that Trudeau informed anyone. They were all waiting for him and he never showed.

Third. There was no statement from Turdeau’s Team untill the following day. (Unless I missed it but that’s the way main stream news was reporting it.)

4. A quick search now comes up with mostly huffinton post articles making excuses.

5. Again any reputable business person will tell out its bad form to not show up. I’d rather see a leader with the balls to stand and fight for whats best for our country than one that hides behind childish tactics.

6. Unless you can provide a time that Harper actually didn’t show up to a meeting without notice, you are just making assumptions with no basis.

7. Lol yeah all Trumps fault.

No deal is better than a bad deal: Why Canada won the TPP stand-off

MICHAEL GEIST
SPECIAL TO THE GLOBE AND MAIL

NOVEMBER 11, 2017
The end-game in trade negotiations always generates more than its fair share of drama and this week's effort to rework the Trans Pacific Partnership without the United States was no different. Canada was squarely in the spotlight with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a no-show at a ministerial meeting that was attributed to a scheduling error, but had the hallmarks of gamesmanship designed to demonstrate a willingness to walk away from the deal.

The result was a major win for Canada as the government leveraged its position as the second-largest economy left in the TPP to extract significant concessions on intellectual property, culture, and the auto sector. Indeed, despite pressure to cave on key demands from the Japanese and Australian governments, Canada stood its ground and is helping to craft a trade deal that better reflects a balanced approach on challenging policy issues.

In advance of the meetings in Vietnam, Mr. Trudeau had signalled that Canada would not be rushed into a deal simply for the sake of an agreement. With pressure on multiple trade fronts and misgivings about the terms of a trade deal that was concluded by the Conservatives weeks before the 2015 federal election, a few tweaks might not be enough to salvage the flawed TPP. The decision to go slow and seek further negotiations may draw the ire of a few governments anxious to conclude the TPP, but it made both strategic and policy sense.

From a strategic perspective, Canada was a late entrant to the TPP negotiations, arriving well after the basic framework had been established and several of the chapters concluded. In fact, the TPP only became a trade priority after the Harper government identified the risks of remaining on the outside of a deal that included the United States. The decision to participate was primarily defensive with some studies projecting only marginal economic gains.

With the United States out of the TPP, Canada's primary strategic objective was gone. That left a deal that offered some benefits for increased trade with Japan, but little else, given that Canada already has free-trade agreements with several other TPP countries such as Mexico, Chile, and Peru.

Further, the TPP never fully reflected some of the Liberal government's trade priorities, including adequately addressing labour regulation and indigenous rights. Addressing those issues to advance the goal of a "progressive" agreement would require far more than some modest drafting changes.

The contentious North American free-trade agreement renegotiation has upended Canada's trade priorities since the United States remains our dominant trading partner. The overlap between NAFTA and the TPP represents a particularly thorny issue. For example, auto sector provisions have emerged as some of the most challenging of the NAFTA talks, threatening to dramatically change longstanding rule of origin regulations that have served as the basis for a critical North America-wide industry. To hamstring the Canadian NAFTA position on the automotive sector in order to reach a TPP agreement would have swapped short-term gain for long-term pain. As a result, Canada successfully argued that the issue should remain subject to further negotiation.

The trouble with the TPP11 – dubbed this for the 11 countries that remain after the United States dropped out following the election of President Donald Trump – extended beyond strategic shortcomings as the substantive provisions in several areas were widely viewed as coming at a significant domestic cost. This is particularly true for the intellectual property chapter, where the original agreement included patent provisions that would likely increase the cost of pharmaceuticals and copyright rules that would lock down content for decades through the extension of the term of copyright beyond the standard established at international law.

The IP chapter largely reflected U.S. demands and with its exit from the TPP, an overhaul that more closely aligns the agreement to international standards was needed. Canada succeeded on that front too with an agreement to suspend most of the controversial IP provisions including those involving copyright term, patent extension, biologics protection, Internet provider liability, and digital lock rules.

The TPP was also an outlier on cultural policy, departing from the longstanding Canadian approach by omitting a full cultural exception and creating unprecedented restrictions on policies to support the creation of Canadian content. The absence of robust cultural protections in the TPP had been a simmering issue for months. With the issue becoming increasingly sensitive in light of the recent release of a digital cultural policy, acquiescing to a trade agreement that raised alarm bells within the cultural community would have bad policy and bad politics, leaving Canada to successfully argue for further discussions on a cultural exemption.

Global Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland and International Trade Minister François-Philippe Champagne inherited a trade policy that seemed to prioritize any deal over a good deal. Agreement on the TPP11 (now rebranded the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership) remains a possibility, but standing firm on Canadian interests with a willingness to walk away rightly recognized that no deal is better than a bad one.

Yes tried that plus bottom of oil jug. Both started off well but filter has so many damm threads I dropped it in each case before filter fully off. Gonna try top of an oil jug inverted with a drain hose next time. That way it can just sit in place so I can better manage the filter.

I wasn’t aware of the Kureg thing so did a quick search and this is my impression

So a person kills people yelling praise Allah and carrying a Isis flag and the left tells us not to jump to conclusions
But A senator is accused of rape allegations and a conservative says let’s not hang the guy untill his fair day in court
And the left silences the reporter’s right to free speech but cancelling his show

Now everyone who stands up to support the reporter’s right to free speech and actually report news makes a display of protest and they are are labeled as pedophiles.

Do you not see the blatant hypocrisy in this? Your not that blind man.

If the guy did the crime then he deserves to rot in jail or better yet be casterated and hanged but he does have a right to a fair trial before judgment.

Hilarious that at the same time half of Hollywood leftist elite are being accused of rape or sexual misconduct but not seeing their shows/ movies canceled. Hell some are being interviewed to get “their side”without reporters shows being canceled.

Even Holier than thou guys like George Taka (who has spoken out against rape and oppression) has been accused of forceful sexual advancement.

You're kidding right? Shows/movies are being cancelled all over the place. Spacey was removed from "All the Money in the World". Louis C K removed from "Night of Too Many Stars" and his premier of "I Love You, Daddy" cancelled. Several Harvey Weinstein upcoming projects cancelled. Hugh Hefner biopic has been cancelled after Brett Ratner was accused.

If you're referring to Hannity, he was "reporting" on the story - it was more of a defence segment in which Moore proceeded to potentially dig a deeper hole but wasn't called out for it (ie. asking the teenage girl's mother for permission to date). I know he also showcased the other Alabama republican who defended more saying it was ok since Joseph and mary were together and Mary was a teenager - so the bible allows it. I'm not sure how that segment is considered journalism...but maybe he isn't try to "do" journalism?

How did you go from Keurigs to ISIS? Do they use coffee pods in their caves?

You're right, he does deserve his day in court and should step aside and deal with it (they could be false accusations) but there's a lot to unpack between the accusations and reports of local malls barring him in the 80's for the same behaviour to teenage girls, etc. Hannity should have just reported the news but that's not what he did. The Keurig thing is funny too because these idiots are smashing expensive machines they paid for (and maybe still paying for in their credit card balances).

Like I said haven’t read much in it just giving impressions on the first couple articals I could find.
You said part of the problem is he was citing Mary and Joseph as a religious excuse.

That’s exactly the reason I bring ISIS into it.

To make a point that for the left. Something is okay on one side but not on the other.

The hypocrisynis So thick and wide spread a disturbing number of ppl are blind from it.

Isis bad = dont jump to conclusions

Liberal bad = don’t jump to conclusions

Conservative bad = immediately jump to concludings then condemn everyone and everything related to the person or who dares to speak up and say let’s not jump to conclusions.

I referenced a book previously called 'Smart Thinking". In it is described habits. Breaking a habit on willpower alone is extremely hard if not impossible. Replacing one habit with another based on the stimulus/response of the habit you're trying to end is key to success. You're doing that now by replacing the cigarette with the vape. When giving up the vape try to replace it with something, not simply quit by willpower, otherwise you'll run the risk of reverting right back to cigarettes.

On a side note, I've never been a smoker but have considered picking up vaping with nicotine. It's a proven thing that nicotine is helpful in the creative process for writers. I occasionally do some writing (awkwardly) and can use any help if I want to improve it.

While vaping is certainly more harmful than just breathing, it's certainly less harmful than cigarettes.

I'd be careful if I were you, like you mentioned you were never a smoker so I'm assuming you've never had nicotine. It really is extremely addictive. I've done a lot of reading the past few days on vaping and yes it is def. more harmful than just breathing.. but cigarettes will kill you. I'm 29 and was getting short-breathed at work.. wheezing in the mornings.. nasty stuff. I've been smoking 1/1.5 packs a day for 11 years.. it had to go.

Edit: some of these vape flavors are fuckin delicious.

ROCK AUTO.

Never ever even once again would I buy or suggest anyone else orders parts from there. To start with, parts came from two different warehouses so that meant shipping x 2. Add to that they packed heavy parts (brake drums) on top of fragile parts in a cobbled together box without any filler and you get a package with damage to virtually everything. Ok so not the end of the world right, shiat can happen. A glitch in their system when I bring up the order has me stumped how to proceed on reporting damage, numerous emails to cust service asking for help, get stock reply of please refer to the ordering page to report any problems. Round n round n round we go. Finally find a phone number via Google search, call and ask for customer service only to be told in a snotty voice (then hung up on) all communication must be done via email through the order page.
And vendors wonder why customers get pushed to the brink and loose their collective minds!!!

PS, yes I agree all is fine when an order goes as it should, beware of when it doesn't. Google search of problems with Rock Auto suggests my experience is all too typical.

ZR
12-06-2017, 09:19 AM
Yup, just got another reply.

. RockAuto does not have a phone customer service department. Returns do need to be set up online. When you click on the "arrange a return/report a problem" button for the kit, then select "damage/defective" as the reason. The website will walk you through the rest of the process.

Starting to wonder what hour next move is gonna have to be with the business.
Been a year looking for a second delivery guy and can’t find someone who just wants to show up to work.

Tried paying one guy more and within a week has other employees bitching at me about him making as much as they were from the start.
And it was for naught cuz he left after 2 months for more pay.

One more raise and my employees will be making almost as much as I am.

Can’t raise prices cuz then we won’t be competitive.

Seems like a vicious circle and no easy answer to it.

We have the same issue finding competent employees. Look for efficiency and automation opportunities where possible. Do you employ any fleet tracking for current delivery guy, can you verify his routes and times are maximized? Are you sure you need 2 guys or can 1 guy work optimally fulfill the needs. What about an incentive for retail pick up? Would you have more customers take that option and thus reduce delivery workload?

How are employees finding out about wages of other employees? If their bragging or flaunting to others, that needs to be addressed. Are wages based solely on the role or does seniority factor in? If the former that needs to be spelled out to employees so they know that job is worth $$ and if they want more they need to demonstrate ability to perform other functions, not just exist.

Paying employees on par isn't a downside if their fulfilling a role that's valuable and enables you to perform work that will create more profits down the road.

Small business is a rough go man, find your competitive advantage and use it to you advantage. You're in a smaller area with I assume lower overhead, what's your digital sale model like? Can you price yourself competitively online and boost sales there?

There is no easy answer, that's for sure.

We do major appliances. So it’s a weird market. Delivery wise my main guy can do some stuff himself but not all of it.

We have done what we can to maximize and have looked into online but sales don’t work good online for large stuff like fridges and stoves. People want to gone to the store and see it touch it. Ect.
Biggest problem is people seem to think delivery should always be included.
That can’t happen.

Good prices but if you have an issue you can feel like you're out in the desert on your own.

Exactly that.
Price is not worth the aggravation.

That sucks - it's hard to find good talent these days even when compensation is good. I see a lot of small business financials and it seems a lot of folks are working pretty hard for what I consider to be not a lot of money.

Btw, how's your pup's arthritis/dysplasia?

The vet tried him on a different pill. Which is helping quite a bit. He is still no spring chicken but I don’t have to carry him up and down the stairs.

But the down side is the did a liver screening because the new pill can be hard on it. His liver is in rough shape. Something about the lining being too thin.
There are drugs that MIGHT help but are crazy expensive.

So the pills that help his pain and movement will keep him comfortable but most likely shorten the rest of his life.
And at his age the drugs to help that problem probably won’t help.
He is more comfortable which is helping his interaction with the kids.

Between your business, and family (dog), you sound like you have a lot on your plate, man. I hope you're able to find a light at the end of this tunnel. It sounds like a tough deal.

I drink too much and probably why I’m so cranky on line all the time. Lol

Thanks though. Everything I put up with I do for my wife and kids. When I get to unwind and spend time with them it seems all worth it.

It shows as +$21K CAD each today. I was considering buying some last year when it dropped to under $1K but didn't. Looked at Ethereum too but that was already way up from 2016 prices.

a friend of mine gets a special med for his dog online. took some searching but what was crazy expensive he now gets for reasonable prices. Might be worth a search.

There are great sources online for pet meds that don't have the crazy mark-ups like the vet's office.

Yeah, one of our dogs was on phenobarb (for epilepsy) for several years but had to switch meds around age 10 due to build-up of bad liver enzymes. With the next one, her arthritis was pretty bad but the glucosamine kept her moving and off pharmaceuticals.
