Trip from my place to 407 and 9th line for dinner, between high beams or only DRLs, easily a half dozen should have been pulled over and ticketed.

Das 5.0
01-28-2018, 10:36 AM
my high beam policy when being approached by a car with high beams on is thus:

I turn on high beams for about 1 second, longer than a flash to indicate I am doing this with purpose. I then revert to low beams for several seconds. If oncoming's highs remain on, I turn mine on an leave them on until they lower theirs.

This works about 75% of the time.

In the case where a car is drifting into my lane, I turn directly towards them. This works 100% of the time (so far) for lane correction.

Pacifivity does not gain attention.

I do the same thing ....

you don't realize how much a good workout kicks the ever-loving shit outta your body until you take a little time off

picked up that flu bug or whatever last week....missed work We-Fr and had to take some antibiotics....decided to not be completely stubborn and called off the workouts until this Friday

so about 8 or 9 days off the gym

was back at work for the full week this week and felt 100% by Thursday

picked up where I left off...Friday was leg day

I'd call it a respectable leg day....nothing too crazy...no personal bests or anything....around 50 sets in total...lots of heavy squats

and I'm damn near fucking crippled here 2 days later....thighs feel like they been driven over by a bus

back day was yesterday too....so now like 70% of my body feels like it's torn to shreds

and now it's time for arms.....I'm gonna be a heap of sore tomorrow

All my cars have always been somewhat noticeable. So in my mind there's no added protection having a generic plate when the amended description would be "the asshat in the loud black mustang convertible thats low with chrome rims and custom plates that say..." vs. "the asshat in the loud black mustang convertible thats low with chrome rims"

Well tonight I was doing laundry and the fabric softener has almost turned to curdled gel, lol.....moral of the story is don’t mix fabric softener brands I guess.

Oh, and with regard to the vanity plate debate, mine show my initials followed by numbers, RDF 01 if anyone wants to stalk me or whatever. But I got mine because it was cheaper than renewing two plates each year since I used to have a Mustang for summer and a truck for winter, truck plates are black and car plates are blue, however with vanity plates they work on either. So there! I got mine cuz it was cheaper, lol, fuck the govt!

Well, with most companies (and their stocks) there are real business models, revenue, and assets that have some liquidation value in most cases but with cryptos there really is nothing (no backer/guarantors or underlying asset since it's decentralized).

Ghost Rider
02-02-2018, 03:37 PM
real business models and assets doesn't necessarily mean you can't still lose money on a stock, stocks can drop for "real" companies too, if there was no risk, everybody would/could just throw their money at any company and expect to make gains, some business models fail even if they are well thought out...sometimes shit just happens or goes in an unplanned direction due to unforeseen changing circumstances...this is where the "Gamble" comes in IMO, you take a chance on something that becomes a great success, you gambled and won, you take a chance on something that goes the other way, you gambled and lost

Some people make made some big money out there with crypto, especially in the private sector where people were selling their shares to others and cashing out...

Absolutely stocks can go down - look at the markets today. If you buy the stock of RBC, Canadian Tire, Walmart, Costco, etc., I don't think you are really gambling - sure there is risk that they can get into trouble, etc., but you can point to the companies building, factories, etc., and make an assessment of what affects them, how they will perform over a specified period (estimate DCF/NPV/IRR/ROI/ROE/ROA, etc), assets they can sell to raise cash if needed, etc., versus a cryptocurrency which I think is closer to walking into a casino/buying a lottery ticket (although the odds of a return with cryptos may be better than the latter since you can make a determination of trend/momentum, etc that you can't make with the probabilities in a casino/lottery).

I considered it, and looked into pretty much every other Canadian city of 100K people+. I went across Canada and sampled a few contenders and have decided B.C. is for me. I looked pretty close at Halifax too, but the mountains and Okanagen had a stronger draw for me.

Looked in Ottawa east Barhaven , Greely too ,matter of time . BC’s foreign to me , Halifax is nice but not that cheap .

I don't understand this. What is the Canadian dollar backed by?

For a less cynical perspective - by the production/output of the Canadian economy and yes, it's workers and taxpayers as a collective lot - if you're "working, you are earning revenue/income, can pay your bills, have a good credit rating, etc. Yes, you can borrow against your income stream (think your mortgage, etc that the bank lends to you) but if you're not working or are producing less you're worth less as a guarantor.

When I used to do long trips I would go to the grocery store and get some glad press’n seal and apply that to vulnerable areas, works awesome and peels right off. The 3m stuff is nice but very costly and super visible if this is a show car, also if it’s left in the sun for years it’s hard to get off and the paint will be a different colour underneath.....

so what's the government incentive to import economic migrants who don't work and immediately collect benefits like welfare, health care etc.

Political and economic strategy are not one and the same. The idea behind bringing in immigrants of any kind is primarily to offset current or future declines in the employment age population (while the aged population increases - for example, Japan is going to be in big trouble as their working population is declining, aged population is increasing, and child birth rates continue to be too low to replenish the employable population - they are in big trouble having been in a deflationary environment for 10-15 years, and not likely to get better in any hurry).

We should swing open the doors for all the white south africans fighting for their lives. They are mostly hard working farmers facing genocide. They can speak the language, come from a similar culture, have a work ethic are educated and are facing a real threat of death.

That is the question.

They used a sermon talking about greatness comes from within. And everyone can be great if they work hard ect ect
And they played it over people working, everything from soldiers and Athletes to everyday jobs like constructing workers.

The message was that you don’t have to be famous to achieve greatness.
You don’t have to be a rocket scientists, surgen, actor or sports star. Greatness is how we define ourselves everyday.

So no. Not offensive in the slightest

It's funnier with the sermon "Drum Major Instinct" voiced over the commercial.
http://kingencyclopedia.stanford.edu/encyclopedia/documentsentry/doc_the_drum_major_instinct/

But very seriously, it goes through life; the drum major instinct is real. (Yes) And you know what else it causes to happen? It often causes us to live above our means. (Make it plain) It's nothing but the drum major instinct. Do you ever see people buy cars that they can't even begin to buy in terms of their income? (Amen) [laughter] You've seen people riding around in Cadillacs and Chryslers who don't earn enough to have a good T-Model Ford. (Make it plain) But it feeds a repressed ego.
You know, economists tell us that your automobile should not cost more than half of your annual income. So if you make an income of five thousand dollars, your car shouldn't cost more than about twenty-five hundred. That's just good economics. And if it's a family of two, and both members of the family make ten thousand dollars, they would have to make out with one car. That would be good economics, although it's often inconvenient. But so often, haven't you seen people making five thousand dollars a year and driving a car that costs six thousand? And they wonder why their ends never meet. [laughter] That's a fact

So going in the depths of the internet last night on tires (one of my all time fav subjects), began comparing more and more tires by factory tread depth. What's crazy is how one tire brand can make a model that in a 275/55R20 has 15/32 tread depth, but go up a couple to a 275/65R20 and suddenly you have a 19/32 tread depth. No wonder some folks absolutely love a certain brand and model of tire on their rig and swear by their capabilities and longevity and others simply call them adequate.

Isn't it redundant at some point? I think you can only absorb a certain amount (and it depends on how it's delivered - absorption/binding agents)? Not certain about it though as I don't really take VitC supplements. Maybe throw in things like blueberries, citrus, Oil of Oregano, etc., as added insurance? 6 months is a crazy long time to be sick, whether sequential or spread out.

That's how I felt when a friend told me he does 10,000 per day LOL

I think 2000mg is fine to be honest, even if it starts dropping to 50% absorption rates at higher levels. I guess if it's healthy enough with some bio flavonoids you could use more VitC...

I'm no doctor though, even if it's a placebo, it's working for me. Last year I had the cold/flu off and on for 6 months, I missed a lot of work.

Even without the missing work aspect - that sucks, it's a lot of time during a year feeling crappy. Not sure about reliability of this source but I have read in the past about side effects of high levels of VitC supplements versus diet sourced VitC. Plus there is the additional issue that the majority of the manufactured VitC (added to food and supplements) come from China and only a small percentage of it is inspected so who knows what you're actually getting when you buy the stuff from drug stores and groceries (read this about 5 years ago but haven't looked into the sources; percentage at the time was 80-90% of supply). I'm not a doctor either so don't take medical advice from me...lol.

Ever drive a Vette? They’re similar to that since you sit way down in them, the visibility is poor, the nose is super long, doors are huge, etc.....they’re not nearly as livable day to day as a fox is, performance in the twisties is far better though.
I’ve always liked them, I actually owned 4 in total over the years, 1st was a 83 berlinetta v6, drove it home, sold it. Second was a 84 firebird v8, drive it to the shop, then home, sold it. Third was a 86 iroc-z, drove it home, to the shop to fix a coolant leak (Gm puts freeze plugs behind motor mounts btw), then home again, at which point the heater core started leaking, sold it. Finally I thought I’d try the next Gen and bought a 96 trans am, drove it home and you guessed it, sold it.
I always wanted to like them but after getting al, excited, the drive home killed it, they’re just not a nice car, lol.

What can I do about a neighbor that keeps calling the fire department on me?

9/10 times I start my wood burning fireplace in the garage.. the fire department shows up. Almost broke down my front door today.. understandable.

They do their check, all is good.. fireplace is setup safe. The city of Toronto has been here to inspect it.. all is good there too.

Edit: I KNOW who is calling but of course can't prove it.

imo....contact your city councillor and ask their advise

put it under the context of how much money is being wasted for the fire dept to suit up and come to your place countless times and what it would look like in the media if the councillor didn't act on this bullshit

I've seen you mention this before.....and as a taxpayer I'd like to know how much it's costing us each time the fire dept pays you a visit over some asshole neighbour bent outta shape over SFA

They should invoice the perpetrator.

That’s how I thought it worked.
They have the phone number that called, and if it’s determined that it’s a false alarm they are charged for the visit.. I would think after being charged the cost of a fire dept visit not to your own property a couple of times it would stop..
A coworker called an ambulance recently and was surprised at the cost .

Is it that suppose to happen if it’s a fake call or negligence.

I remember something from whe I was in high school about some guys who there “shooting a music video” and lit a piano on fire in his parents back yard.
Apparently they got the bill for the fire department.

So I entered a draw with an on line parts supplier for a chance to win something like $15,000 in parts

Today my phone bing goes off of an email. The notification says from American Truck
And the subject line says CONGRATULATIONS!

I think “no fucking way” as my heart beats faster. Mind immediately racing with all the goodies I’m gonna get.

Then I open the email and see the entire message line it says

“CONGRATULATIONS, on entering our draw. Don’t forget to enter each week for your best chance to win”

Bastards! Cruel cruel bastards.

Do you not get along with said neighbour? We go to these type of calls all the time, and it usually tends to be a neighborhood disagreement. Maybe you need to approach the neighbour and ask them why they keep calling every time you light your stove. It could be as simple as they are simple and don’t get the fact that you are legally burning wood in your stove.

As for the cost, if you live in any area covered by a full time station, the cost is actually minimal as we are already there getting paid. The cost is fuel in the truck. If you are covered by a volunteer or paid on call station, then the cost can be substantial. Not sure if any department will charge a caller for a false alarm though as they may have good intentions in mind. You could also call your local fire department and speak to someone there about the situation you are having. They may be able to send a prevention officer out to speak to the complaintant about the situation so you are not seeing the FD every time you light your stove.

I have a wood stove, had the original chimney lined so it vents up high (2 story house) never had a problem with using it

My neighbour has a wood stove had a chilly installed off the back single story much closer Down he has been called on

I was also called on last year for my fire pit in the back yard. Had a fire going and threw on a bunch of bark from my wood pile it got smoky and one of the neighbours got pissy

The other neighbour who was called on is known to burn garbage in his stove from time. It smokes like crazy and stinks to high hell. The time I know he was called on were around the same time he was burning garbage.

That all being said. And just a question. Are you just burning wood? Is you stove high effichancy?

A newer high effichancy stove will have a reburner and will snake far less once up to temp

Older stove or burning wet wood can lead to exess smoke and worked up neighbors.

Just a thought.

Once onto the 407 West towards Toronto, ridiculous driving antics from so many it became useless to even try to keep count. Does Johnny the Jackass thinks it's a freakin video game? There is no reset button nor is there a try over, your endangering my mine and everyone else's lives out there. Even more ridiculous, mini van jammed with what looks like an entire family, Dad in pass seat, scared shitless with two hands welded to the wheel teen ager at the helm making sudden lane changes for seemingly no reason. Side streets finally got plowed late last night, had a 4' berm in front of my place. Shoveled it aside then had to run around corner to grandparents before they attempted to shovel theirs. Get there, convince my 87yr old grandfather not to shovel and I'll do it. Finish in the midst of getting pelted by ice pellets, hop back in truck to head home and see my elderly neighbor attempting to ram the beam down with his little SUV.....ugh....several hours later I think I've cleared 7 driveways out and am really making my case to GF on why I need a 2500 with a plow.

That sucks man! Was it built in Detroit or Kansas? Detroit built vehicles come to southern Ontario by truck. Mine came list over a week after the build date. If it was built in Kansas it has to come by rail and could be sitting in a rail yard somewhere. The rail company will not ever give delivery dates. I’ve heard of people waiting up to 3 months for a new vehicle to be delivered because it was on a rail car in a yard somewhere waiting for a train. Ford has no say if it is in fact on rail car.

Shipping with the way the weather/industries has been lately is a gong show. I have had two different suppliers have lost shipments, one was a a set of new steer cylinders for a Genie Z45 coming from Washington, the other new Hydraulic pump for our Boom Truck from Quebec. Different shippers, companies, same story gets shipped, tracked, then vanishes. The cylinders eventually surfaced, the pump is still MIA.

If its coming from Detroit and going via rail, through Ontario good luck, I think I know the yard where it would be right now and it's completely covered in a few feet of snow.

Sucks but as said shipping is a gong show and not something that the manufacture or the dealer has any say in.

We deal with it all the time. Get yelled at on a regular basis by customers because of a held up shipment.
Waiting on a pump for repair and had the customer and her son in law show up at my store and rip me a new one, in front of other customers because of my horrible customer service and how poorly I treat my customers. Apparently giving her a loaner fridge the while hers was being repaired is poor customer service.

Certainly not my biggest problem. If I had an f150 loaner while I wait for Ford to get their heads out of their asses it would be fine. Since my trade in has been parked for a while now with no liability coverage it's kind of an inconvenience. The last thing I need is for something to happen to my accident and damage free trade-in. It was my first time ordering a vehicle and will certainly be the last time I order one.

Then the delivery date disappeared and now it's 10 days past the 2nd with no new delivery date. Dealer can't get any info and Ford of Canada has no info (at least thats what they told me). Just transport delay.

I ordered mine November 29, was built week of Jan 8 and delivered Jan 25.

At first they told me it was coming from Kansas City, but the sticker says Detroit.

I find myself cheering for the Lion.

Yup, me too. There's been a few hunters this year where karma won as well (plus some young guy in the US who was shooting animals getting into garbage, and shot himself in the process).

How can people have such a hard time in the snow with their FWD suvs. All the main roads were dry yesterday so I took the Mustang to my parents house. I was able to make it up their completely snow covered driveway on summer tires lmao. It took a little speed but I made it lmao!

Later in the evening I had to park on the road so my moms car could park in the driveway. Their road was also snow covered with a couple inches of snow. Was able to park and get going no problems. I was shocked. Thought for sure I was gonna need a push to get going [emoji1]

Day or two old stuff that's been compacted by use/rain is a whole different ball game than active system with ruts, powder, etc.

Been noticing that the exhaust on my winter car has been getting louder the past couple of months. Fired it up yesterday and went to scrape the weekends worth of snow off it and noticed it was getting really loud. Took a look today and noticed gasses coming out from the flex bit between the cat and the resonator, tapped it with a screwdriver and bits fell out. Now the debate - do I do anything to fix it? Think I might spend some of my next few days off taking off the interior around the rear strut towers and see if they are still solid. Apparently a pretty common rot area for the car and if they are iffy I'll leave it for the winter.

Side note, anyone have any experience with 2011-2014 sonatas?

Poked around the strut towers today. Sound deadening liner material was soaked, didn't want to take the whole inside apart so felt around from the outside and found the hole as seen below. The yellowish stuff is the sound liner, the bolts to the right are the loop that the folding seat attaches to. Figure that I'll run the car for the rest of the winter and start looking come spring for something much newer. Hold is about the size of a fist.

Rest of the car okay?
Spot like that if easily excessable with the seats out are supprsingly cheaper to fix. Cuz there is really no time consuming body or paint work involved. Weld a patch seal the seems, undercoat and drive on.

^14 hamilton winters. I was planning on stripping the interior this spring anyways to pressure wash the carpet. Had the trunk pieces out - Subaru puts a layer of heavy styrofoam with storage between the spare tire/floor and trunk bottom, I guess for sound deadening too - some of the seams around the sides look rough, one with a small hole.

Rest of the car is ok for the most part. Rust around the rear wheel wells and starting below the passenger mirror of all places. Replaced the front bumper and hood with a different colour last year after I hit a truck (100% my fault) and the upper rad support is a little bent. Lower rad support and bumper mounts were starting to get rusty.

Now if it was just me driving it I wouldn't be too worried, I drove a car for two winters that had major holes replaced with fiberglass boat repair kit stuff. But I also have a 1 year old that I drive around in it. My wife's Forester is the primary family car, but I do use mine on a regular basis. That is what gives me a little bit of pause in keeping on driving it. Maybe I'll strip out the interior of that side tomorrow and see how bad it really looks and go from there.

Yikes! Looks like a Ford Escape inner wheelwell, lol. That is a main structure point for the suspension, so be very careful poking around in that area that the strut doesn’t come flying at you.....seen it happen on Escapes before.

^Except it is a good bit older than an escape in the same shape. I'll try and find some time to get the interior out today or tomorrow and see how it looks from the inside. On the other hand maybe I'll just leave it and tell myself its fine until the tower busts apart.

Holes in the exhaust system and holes in the floor? Sounds like a bad combination to me.

Crack the window and it's fine. That is my theory.

We factory ordered a Fusion 2 years ago. It took more than 3 weeks to be delivered to the dealer after being built. The dealer (Heritage) gave my wife a loaner car for 10 days till the Fusion came in. nothing you can do. Just logistics.

My DD has been a great little car, cheap on gas and fun to drive. But I miss owning a truck, I think it's time to look for another one.

Took a closer look around the strut towers and I just couldn't drive my child in the car anymore. Yeah, it would probably be OK for the next couple of months but if anything were to happen I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing that I was putting him in that situation. So got a new to me Kia Soul. Nice and roomy for a tall/big guy, decent rear sear room even with my seat all the way back, way safer than my rusted out 2004, price was reasonable.

Have to say that the dealership experience was pretty decent. Leggat Kia in Burlington. In and out in an hour or so. I'd done my research and knew the price was fair, knew my trade was worth exactly scrap and was paying cash.

It will put a smile on your face with a lot less payment.

Test drive a 2018 Mustang GT Premium and let me know what you think.
