buying the boxes of mandarins etc at this time of year cuts the prices back per piece

but spring through fall...per day, I'll do a nectarine, a plum, 2 apples and a pear....and yeah....$30ish per week

you want a nectarine right now....imported...$5.99 per pound

FFS...a half decent bundle of grapes costs $8.00

you might wanna take a trip to the grocery store....it'll open your eyes

It's funny because we had a meeting on Tuesday with a large client who is a Canadian tour operator whom many here would have travelled with (large vertically integrated) and they said their is significant infrastructure development in Cuba right now with a lot of building of large hotels/resorts, etc and that something big was coming in Cuba for that much building to be going on now (versus past years as they have been going to Cuba as one of their destinations for years). We also discussed that US travel forecast is up 10% from pre-2008 levels (due to economic swing there) which equals the whole Canadian travel market (in numbers) for sun destinations which means price is going up for everyone because US travellers are more profitable for hotels/resorts, other travel suppliers in sun destinations. Yes it will be a little while yet but the government there and global players (eg. Spanish hotel developers and their financiers - we can't figure who is putting up the money yet) are putting massive amounts of money into Cuba. If I can figure out the land ownership thing there I'd buy land now.

Many times the issue with kids inactivity is not with the kid, it's with the Parents or Parent, not managing the child's time, too many parents these days want to be their kids BFF and not the Parent and are simply afraid to instruct them as to what it is they should be doing with their time.

Further, if the Parents are inactive, non-athletic slobs, guess what junior is going to be?

No desire to go to a Cuban resort again, they just cannot compete with other Caribbean destinations, due to their economic isolation for so many years, but Havana was a very interesting city, the food was way better than the bland, repetitive BS at the resort, all the old American cars still on the road was also neat.

That said, Cuba was great when you were young, because it was so cheap, that may change now, as there will be many Americans that will want to go to a place where they have not been allowed to go.

They can - maybe not as well as someone with more disposable income but it is still possible (may one apple a day will do some). It does however take time and effort. Lots of basic good foods are not that expensive compared to the junk/processed food versions which is not that cheap anymore either (even the yellow no name boxes of stuff) - it takes more work to eat healthier food overall. Ever look at the grocery carts of the not so thin people in the check out line at the grocery? I also watch what folks are picking up in terms of children's versions of food items in the grocery and it's not surprising we have the issues we have.

Thankfully I was the last generation that actually played outside. I didn't have a cellphone until I was 19. Didn't have a family computer until I was 16. (Which made schoolwork VERY difficult) however I was always out on my BMX or playing road hockey or football. Just friends though. No leagues.

I only got fat at 18 when I got off my BMX and parked my ass in a car Lmao!!!

I'm happy that when time comes my kids are of age to play sports I'll be able to provide that for them unlike my parents.

But please don't say there's programs out there. Because for the lower working class they just aren't feasible. Only works two ways. Dirt poor (subsidized) or Privilaged.

I agree. Even so called "expensive" sports can be done economically. Take downhill skiing for example. A pair of skiis and boots can be purchased at a ski swap for under $200.00. "Oh, but what about the lift ticket", you say? . There is a ski program for kids in grade 4 and 5 that offers free lift tickets for a minimal charge ($30.00registration fee). After that, if you visit the Toronto Ski and Snowboard show you can purchase discount lift tickets for every hill in the GTA. For example, my daughter skies at Hockley Valley, and the lift tickets I got from their booth at the Ski and Snowboard show only cost me $20.00/pc. Think about it, she can ski all day for $20.00. You can't go to see a movie these days for $20.00. As JT said, every school in the province has a number of sports to participate in: Track and Field, basketball, soccer, volley ball, football... It can be done.

Also, boxed food is easy to prepare between your daytime and nighttime jobs. LOOK closely at who's buying what. Sure there's the tragically fat people that buy $300 worth of hoho's. part of our basement reno this year involved replacing the 1957 main trap and installing a backwater valve

the old exit drain design was apparently prone to clogging and the city likes the new valve because the valve shuts if there's flooding and stops the water from coming up the basement drains

had to apply for a city permit which was actually quite easy online ($107).....but the job is a bastard cause they have to smash out your basement floor and takes a few days (($2200)

was told the city would reimburse up to $1200....and figured we'd get $195 because Gov't

nope.....sent me a cheque for $1200 today

in summary - it's a fucking nightmare

in every situation since the protests where he is at a scene where a crime has been commited and an arrest of a black guy is taking place, he is bombarded with "you're a racist pig" from the perp, to every other witness at the scene

in scenarios where the perp is violent...he literally begs the perp to calm down so it doesn't get physical.....and when the perp starts swinging and he's got to take him down....well....it's apparently because he's a racist pig

his superiors are getting constant pressure and told to act on citizen complaints (aka penalize the officer internally)....so all the frontline guys are walking on eggshells because you don't advance in your career as a cop when you're constantly getting zinged internally because the politicos need to set an example on the back of some poor schlep who's just trying to do his job of busting assholes for commiting crimes

the mood of some of the frontline guys is getting to the point where they want to avoid going after these perps for fear that busting these guys could be detrimental to their career

The inability to post movie reviews in the movie subforum is astounding. On top of all the other cherry threads.

I can understand that it's detrimental to ones self worth and impossible to uphold the need for congratulatory circlejerking, to post in the related subforum since it's buried so far down the forum mainpage that no one takes a look. Granted, theres about 400 subforums, so it's tough to distinguish which ultra specific subforum to post in.

Alas, the best way to get your opinion heard is to post in the lounge. That is, of course, the reason why GTAMC created so many specific subforums. So people could bitch and moan about not having super imperative non-Mustang related subforums, only to have them ignored and purged due to inactivity.

I'm glad there's a subforum to see how to check my blinker fluid.
